Gadzooks, We’re Putting Our Makeup On Backwards!
So, picture it, I’m putting on my makeup last night (fascinating right?)—mostly doing the same, exact thing I do every freaking time. Clearly, I need to change up my “look”—but that’s a whole different post. Anyway, the application order goes something like this: Clarins Flash Beauty Balm, concealer, bronzer/powder, eyeliner (I’m way into navy liner these days), mascara, blush and lipgloss. No deviation whatsoever. Apparently, I’m a bit in the wrong—you are supposed to do your eyes before everything else, even your foundation/concealer, or so says makeup artist Kate Lee (she’s glammed up every Hollywood starlet from Anne Hathaway and Keira Knightley to Diane Kruger and Sienna Miller): “I like to do the smoky eye before starting any other makeup. That way, if you accidentally get a little bit of eyeshadow on your face, you don’t end up ruining your foundation or powder.” Interesting. What about you gals, do you have a make-up application formula? It looks like mine is sort of all wrong. [Teen Vogue]

Nope, I follow your order, too. I don’t like to do my eyes first because I do put power on them first to keep the eyeshadow from forming the creases. My skin is oily, so I need power/foundation (I use Bare Minerals so they are one in the same) on first. I do my makeup before my hair, so sometimes I’ll not do eye liner/mascara until I’m done drying my hair so it doesn’t smudge in that process.

this is bs. i don’t think there are any rules for make up. it makes sense if you are doing a heavily pigmented eye (like smoky) that you can do it first just in case you mess up or the powder travels, but you could always just put a powder guard under your eyes.
don’t change the order.
there is no WRONG way to do or wear make up.

Liquid concealer, mineral concealer (adds a bit of color since it’s a bit of bronzer), eyeliner, eyeshadow, mascara, stick blush, mattifying powder on t-zone, lips, done. I would never do my eye makeup first, since my eyelids are all purple and I have to put concealer on them anyway, so might as well do the rest. I don’t really use eye makeup that’s powdery enough to spread that much anyway.

I also do all concealer / foundation etc before applying any eye make up. However, then I do end up occasionally messing up some of the foundation under my eyes by wiping off little bits of smudged eyeliner/eyeshadow if doing heavier make up. Although it’s not really difficult to make it look normal again, so I’ve never found it that much of an issue. Otherwise the eye make up ends up smudging in the creases of the eye etc for me…

Eyeliner, mascara, eyeshadow, foundation, lips.
Some people say you should do the lips first.. which I consider a bit weird, but I guess there is no one absolute right or wrong when it comes to makeup :p

Foundation (liquid or powder), eye shadow, blush, mascara, lips.
My cousin who was a model said you should do your lips before you do the blush since the lipstick/lipgloss enhances the blush color, but I’ve never had the problem of it looking like too much, so I never followed the advice.

eyelash curler, mascara, second mascara?, think about if i want to wear other makeup, eyeliner, lips.
i don’t wear a lot of makeup, blush is mostly unnecessary unless i put on a foundation. i’ve spent so much money trying all sorts of foundation but they all seem to make me break out so i tend to skip them most of the time.

I’m with sassyladybird25.
I’m a makeup artist and there are certain rules like “concealer before powder” but general application is what works best for the one applying the makeup.
I wouldn’t to the eyes first because after you do everything else, then eyes, then powder you could make the powder fall on the black eye shadow. Then you would have the reverse dilemma. Either way it’s something to deal with.
Doing it the typical way (foundation than eyes) I use tissue to cover under my eyes to catch the excess eye shadow.
But again, it all depends on what works best for you.
