Did Sammy Sosa Bleach His Skin?
New photos of Sammy Sosa attending an awards event in Las Vegas hit the web over the weekend, and the former baseball slugger looked quite different, to say the least. His skin appeared to be several jarring shades lighter, causing some to speculate that he had bleached his skin like Michael Jackson was rumored to have done.
The site Midwest Sports Fan hypothesizes that Sosa’s steroid use could have caused him to be afflicted with vitiligo, a condition Jackson also claimed he had. But recently, an acquaintance of Sosa’s said he underwent a “rejuvenation process for his skin” that is supposed to repairs years of damage from playing baseball in the sun. “He’s not trying to be Michael Jackson,” said his friend Rebecca Polihronis, to The Chicago Tribune. “He was surprised he came out looking so white. I thought it was a body double. Part of [his appearance in the photo] is just the lighting,” she added.
OK, so his skin was so damaged that it was lightened several shades, yet he still made a public appearance? The skin is the first layer of the body’s defenses, and I find it hard to believe that after a “skin rejuvenation” of this magnitude a doctor wouldn’t caution him against going out in public unnecessarily. I’d think the sheer pain or even the embarrassment of looking different would keep him in the house, unless he was pleased with the lighter skin. Let’s not forget that Sammy has also been wearing green contacts lately. Do you think Sosa bleached his skin? Does it even matter if he did when there are so many other body- and skin-altering procedures available?

feel uneasy about this. would like to hear what he has to about it - not what his friends have to say. also, can we stop saying MJ “claimed” to have vitiligo? he said he had it in 1984, in 1993, and his autopsy proved that he did. if that’s what sammy sosa has than i feel bad for him otherwise i’m confused.

He looks like he’s lost weight and/or had some facial work done.

I’d be willing to bet that Sammy purposely lightened his skin. Bear in mind that he is Dominican (not Cuban), and that the Dominican Republic is notorious for its color consciousness and distaste for darker-skinned people. And while this sort of self-hatred is sad to witness, it’s not exactly surprising.

forgot he was DR, and did not know about the mind-set towards color in the DR. thanks. just wanted to point out to ppl who might not know that dark skinned ppl still get darker in the sun. you should see some of the tan-lines the “dark green” marines get in the corps… (corps’ words, not mine… but funny
)

IT’S NO BIG DEAL! If you are dark you are free to do the same, if you are white and prefer the darker look, no problem, get a tan.
If whites can tan to make their skin darker, why can’t darker races use bleach to lighten their skin? I mean this is almost 2010, it is a new age. I mean, come on, let the man live without people trying to shame him.
I think he looks absolutely GREAT! He looks a LITTLE like Tony Curtis. He, as opposed to Michael Jackson, is not ashamed or afraid of giving his beauty secrets away. MJ was absent for a period of months during which, evidently, he was permanently bleaching his skin (an MD on TV indicated that it was Benoquin/monobenzone that he used). Because after months of seclusion (during which he was undergoing the permanent bleaching), he suddenly surfaced on national TV with bone-white skin, and claiming it was due to vitiligo, which, if you look at his childhood photos can clearly see that he had no such thing.
It would be interesting to see if SS has any kind of reconstructive surgery, which would make him the new MJ, in my opinion. After all, MJ was born just an average looking person, but with all his money he could afford to have all the beauty procedures done, which is what he did. Sadly, though, MJ would not admit to much, even though his results were spectacular towards the end before he started going overboard.
I guess SS is the new MJ.
Ke kosa mas buena SS! Saliste guapisimo, no importa lo ke dice los celosos.
(In English it means: “What a good thing SS! You turned out to be really handsome, no matter what jealous people say”.)
