Diablo Cody To Pen A

OK people, fess up. You’ve read a Sweet Valley High book. Some of you may have breezed through all 152 tomes, while others of you may have stopped in for classics like Elizabeth’s Super-Selling Lemonade or Jessica Quits the Squad. Sure, the series about a pair of blond, Californian twins was no Nancy Drew, but I still adored these books growing up. I always identified with Elizabeth, the older (by four minutes) twin who wrote for the Sweet Valley High newspaper and dreamed of being a journalist, though I definitely had streaks of Jessica, the flighty, boy-crazy twin, too. So I am very excited to tell you that Sweet Valley High is heading for the big screen and ... (wait for it) ... Diablo Cody will be writing the script as well as producing. We hope this means that the tone of the movie will be midway between the saccharine flavor of the original books and the possessed man-eating of “Jennifer’s Body.”

This is DISASTROUS. My entire life, everyone has been calling me “Jessica Wakefield” because that’s the name of one of the twins in the book. I am Jessica WakeMAN, dammit. All this movie is going to do is make people call me by the wrong name forevermore. wink

Sweet Valley High rules! I read most of the books and even watched the TV show many years ago, which was awesome!  I just hope it is not morphed into something completely crazy by Diablo Cody, where one gets knocked up and the other is a sex crazed super bi**h or something, and just maintains all of its sweetness and innocence.

YAY! I loved reading these books! Hopefully it turns out better than the “Babysitters Club” movie did in the 90s.

Yessssss! Tears of joy AND excitement. She’s a godsend to the woman-writer industry. This will be every bit the twisted hoot I expect from her.

Being a guy, picking up one of these books would have been like carrying plutonium without tongs.
However, I would accompany a date to a Diablo Cody-fied film version.

Jessica Quits the Squad? You mean she’s not batting for the other team anymore?

I’m actually really excited about this! I loved those books way too much. I even liked the SVH tv show.

How sad is it that I actually remember the storyline (vaguely) of Jessica Quits the Squad?

So did she quit, or no? Oh, the suspense!

yes! yes! yes! yes! yes! yes! as long as she somewhat sticks to the story.

Oh my goddddd I loved this books so much.  I always thought Elizabeth was a self-righteous little bitch though, and hated how she was supposed to be the “better” one.

And to think you used to make fun of us for playing Dungeons and Dragons. Feh.

@effing hickster: I used to do that too! I guess people can make fun of me for both.
