Curvy Chicks Beat Out The Scrawny Competitors

Men Prefer Curvy Women

We all know most dudes don’t like chicks who can count their own ribs, but a new study suggests that bigger girls are where it’s at. When 100 dudes were asked to rate the attractiveness of different sized female torsos, researchers found that most men prefer women who are a size 14. The idea gal is 163cm tall with a 76cm waist and 102cm hips. This study didn’t take bust size into account which seems like a pretty important factor. Other studies have suggested that women with hourglass figures, rather than women with athletic bodies, are more attractive to men.

I don’t agree with this study, based purely on the fact that I talk to dudes about women all the time. I don’t know many guys whose ideal woman is a size 14, but maybe that’s because they don’t understand sizes in the first place? Guys certainly don’t like chicks as skinny as the ones you see strutting down the catwalk, but when I ran this study by my male friends one of them called it “ridiculous” and all of them just plain disagreed. What do you think? [News.com.au]

I think you are right, Nikki. I think most men like a girl who is slim but not anorexic, sickly or boyish looking.

A study of 100 men is hardly a study.

A size 14 BRITISH is a size 10 US. Probably about right…but my conversations with guys would put their faves around US size 4-8.

@ sweetsdjc…good point. That article was European so the size would be smaller. I didn’t think of that but, still, 10 seems a little big to me too. Guys like smaller.

Most of the time it’s all relative, sometimes a guys prefrence can be based on past experiences, type, or other reasons. Most girls that wear a bigger size have a booty and pretty big boobs which creates the hour glass shape. I have an hour glass shape, big boobs, a pretty nice butt and I’m a size 12-14, depending on the jeans, but I’m a size 10 in dresses. I get asked out all the time but I think it’s because I know how to dress to accentuate my curves and I am in decent shape besides, and a ton of confidence. I think girls that are smaller don’t always understand that bigger girls are not unattractive because they have a belly or thick legs, girls are more critical of other girls bodies, which is probably why you think this survey is not true. And a girls view is based on thier percpetion which can be influenced by thier guy friends, which is justified because that is the world they are in.

I’ve espeically noticed that older guys are more attracted to me and always have been. I’m assuming age plays a role in this as well, I am not exactly sure why but it just seems to be the case. A size 14 is a healthy size for a lot of women, but not all and the women in this survey probably were healthy looking bigger women who knew how to accentuate their body, plus they probably have confidence in themselves which is important and surveys like these help.

Of course no body likes someone who let thier body go, but that’s not the type of women they probably placed in the survey. I have friends that are constantly dieting and exercising to get skinner, when they are already skinner than me and they are still single. I haven’t been single in over two years and dated many guys who have loved my body. My boyfriend now says he likes me even more because I never stress over my wieght, eat the same foods he does without acting like a bird, dress great, take care of myself and have confidence in myself and to him that just makes me more attractive than any girl he’s dated before - and those are his words. It’s all a relative thing but it seems to me it’s more about girls judging other girls bodies than men, at least the men I know.

It’s all about proportions. Most men I know drool over a woman with hips and boobs and a waist that’s proportionately smaller than both (regardless of clothing size). It’s not how slim she is, it’s the hourglass shape combined with being physical fit.

As a good friend put it to size-14 me last week: “A pin-up girl should have curves.” So yes, it’s all about proportions—and perception.

Most agreed. I’m a size 10, I have big boobs, a small waist and hips. I think it is more important that you have confidence, not dress size. It doesn’t matter how skinny you are, if you don’t love your self then who the hell will?
it has been proven that confidence attracts the most suitors.

@ Nikki:  “still, 10 seems a little big to me too. Guys like smaller”.

Really?  That’s a pretty broad generalization.  I’ve never been accused of being “fat” but I’m no small girl.  I’m 5’9, wear a size 12 as of now, and a size 10 is what I aspire to.  It’s the smallest size I’ve worn since I can remember buying my own clothes.  My height (and hip size/booty size) pretty much eliminates any chance that I will wear anything below a 10 the rest of my life.  But at 5’9, if I were an 4, 6, or probably even an 8 I would look like Olive Oil.  Not sexy.  I’ve had numerous guys tell me how ‘hot’ I am to them…which brings me to my next point…

It’s all very relative.  My boyfriend had previously only dated thin/petite girls.  Well, he’s into bigger girls now that I’m rockin his world on a regular basis. raspberry Got work it, whatever you got!

I roll my eyes at “statistics” like these. I’m sick of people telling me I’m too skinny because I’m a size 0, and I’m sick of my fat friends complaining about being fat.  Skinny or fat, some people will be attracted to you, and some people won’t.  Everyone needs to find something about their bodies that they love, and focus on that.

Men have personal preferences.  However, on the whole:

It’s about being in shape and firm. There’s big, curvy and then there’s dumpy, lumpy and flabby - regardless of your size.

In general, I believe it’s all about proportion.

We women compete with each other based upon size.  Men couldn’t care less.

I blame media and the clothing industry. Shasta is so right! Women do compete with other women based off of how svelte they can become which is crap. All women are beautiful and should celebrate themselves as such.

Whoa, Nikki, I don’t know what to say. The study is definitely not the best, considering there are only 100 guys in it. So of course it’s not representative of the male population as a whole. But the comment you made! Size 10 seems big to you? Guys prefer small? Do you know how many women you just made feel AWFUL about themselves? As someone who used to be quite heavy, I can say this:
1. You have no idea what a size 10 looks like. (While we’re on the subject, what does a size 10 mean? Pants? Dress? Skirt? You’ll find that a size 10 in all of those looks radically different. Not to mention different sizing by stores.
2. You’re right, your male friends DEFINITELY have no idea what a size 10 looks like. Or a 14. Or any size for that matter.
3. I have been a whole range of sizes in my life, and men have been attracted to me at each size. Everyone has a type.

I see a couple problems with this study

1) not very many guys were involved
2) when you poll your guy friends, they said it was inaccurate based on what size they *think* a 14 is. But seriously, I can wear an XS in some stores and an XL in other. I have clothes in a size 4 and clothes in a size 14. If someone asks me what size I am, I have no idea what to say - it changes no matter where you go. And if *I* don’t know what size I am, I’m pretty sure no guy could say either. They don’t know, all they know is that 14 sounds big.

Okay, Jezebel did a post on this- the pictures they used were DRAWINGS. No cellulite, no faces, no jiggly thighs. The whole study was about hip to waist ratios, and is not be be interpreted as “guys like thicker girls YAY.” Sure, most guys like em skinny. But most guys also like em curvy. They like busty, they like smaller chested, they like tall, they like petite. Yes, guys often say they have a “type”- big boobs, big ass, blond hair, whatever- but there’s an exception to every rule. Guys like GIRLS (if they’re straight), and that’s the bottom line. As long as said girl is healthy, happy, and confident, she can easily be the exception to any man’s rule.

Also: Never underestimate the power of a pretty face. Some men may be “tit” men, but every man is a “face” man. My dad once told my mom that when they were first dating his guy friends would ask him vaguely pervy questions about what her body was like. His response was always, “I have no idea, I still haven’t gotten past her face.”

I just spent a week at a brothel, and let me tell you, the girls who got the most work were the girls with the athletic bodies. Those of us curvy hourglass girls got passed over every time.

Important question: Are they talking a BRITISH size 14 or an AMERICAN size 14…? Because a British size 14 = American size 10! This might explain some of the confusion.

I think all this study is saying is that guys like a lot of definition between a woman’s hips and waist (just over a 10 inches difference based on the “ideal” numbers in the study).

@beans17…I was not trying to make girls who are a size 10 or a size 14 for that matter, feel bad. I am just saying that, in general, the men I know are most attracted to women who are quite thin, like a size 2-6. I have a lot of male friends and they consistently date/take home girls who are in this size range. I am disagreeing with this study simply because I have never, based on observation, seen it to be true. Don’t take offensive, I am not a guy, just an observer.
