Mushy Moment Of The Day: Couple Marries After Long-Lost Love Letter Was Discovered

This is one of those moments that makes me believe true love does exist. Steve Smith and Carmen Ruiz-Perez, both 42, finally walked down the aisle after 16 years of separation. The couple fell in love and became engaged when they were in their 20s, but drifted apart when Ruiz-Perez had to move back to France from England. After a few years, Smith sent her a love letter in the hopes of rekindling the romance.

Unfortunately, Ruiz-Perez’s mother put the unopened letter on the mantel and it later fell behind the fireplace. It remained there for a decade until it was discovered when the fireplace was being removed. She was given the brief letter, which read:

“I hope you are well. I was just writing to ask if you ever married and if you ever still thought of me? It would be great to hear from you, please get in touch if you can. Steve XXX.”

Ruiz-Perez, who had remained single, said she was scared to call Smith at first, but gathered enough courage, and they met a few days later in Paris—17 years after they initially fell in love. “When we met again it was like a film. We ran across the airport into each other’s arms,” Smith told the Daily Mail. “We met up and fell in love all over again. Within 30 seconds of setting eyes on each other we were kissing.” Now, they’ve gotten married, a perfect ending to an amazing love story.
