Chris Brown’s Apology Video

Chris Brown—you know, the guy who got his wrist slapped for beating the crap out of Rihanna earlier this year — just released a video on his You Tube page where he apologizes for “the incident,” as he calls it.

He makes lots of references to his mom and his spiritual teachers and how he grew up in a home with domestic violence. Sorry, but it’s still too little, too late, for me. What about you?

Well then, can I beat Chris Brown, & apologize via video?, I think it would be ok, no? He seems to think so.

he didn’t seem all that ‘sad and ashamed’ when he was roaming about in Diddy’s house, or releasing his vid promoting his upcoming album. I think he’s finally realized that he’s kinda of screwed.
The apology may sound more sincere if he didn’t sound like he’s reading from a script…badly. He should never try to act in an actual movie.
Role-model my ass.

He needs to be assigned volunteer work at a battered women shelter wearing a shirt that says ’ I practice boxing on my girlfriend’s face.’ Eff him

What he did?  He unleashed voilent abuse on someone smaller and weaker than he is, pretty much ensuring that there would be no return blows.  Why he did it?  He’s a coward and a bully, yet still an egotistical A-hole.

My daughters took his posters down off their walls when he did this.  I didn’t tell them to, they just did.  I’m glad that at 11 and 14 they recognize sleaze when they see it.

It doesn’t matter how much he apologizes, he’s a d-bag

Is it an apology or a groveling for his career, though he may be more sad about the latter

I’m not even going to watch it. I can’t stand to look at him. I’m only surprised he didn’t have it ready the day of his sentencing. Then again, the judges light sentence reaffirmed his narcissistic views of himself and didn’t think he’d need it. Wrong again. Just another self-serving PR move. Delusional.

This is a bunch of BS.  He is not sad about “the incident”, he is sad his career is O-V-E-R!! D-bag for sure.

What I dislike most about this video is that Chris Brown sounds like he’s reading from cue cards and therefore he doesn’t sound particularly sincere. The apology sounds so scripted —— a PR move, as one of you put it. He looks like he’s sitting in an office building. His voice is monotone and is lacking in emotion to me. This is a situation, I think, where a more off-the-cuff Mark Sanford-style apology might have been more appropriate.

Jessica, the sad part is… some people do buy it. ‘Cause his handlers know it works. His “Numbers” were off, hence the vid now. It’s a chilly place out here in LA/Hollywood…

From a related article: “At the beginning of the two-minute clip, Brown explains that his attorneys advised him to not speak about the situation until the legal ramifications were settled.”

Which, of course, is what prevented him from apologizing to her properly in person, from taping a public apology beforehand and releasing it later, and from sounding sincere in his late-as-f**k half-ass read-off-cue-cards apology.

There’s pretty much nothing that can make up for beating someone smaller and weaker than oneself, regardless of what conversation or whatnot might have led up to it, and this video certainly doesn’t even come close.

Lets face it. He was in a no win situation. If he doesn’t apologize, his career is toast. If he does do it, he faces the wrath of non-believers in his sincerity. In choosing the lesser of two evils, most likely for economic reasons, he also did the right thing.  Only time will tell if it’s authentic and if he learned a lesson.  We all make mistakes and our society has to have a mechanism for appropriating redemption, when its warranted. Anything less would be uncivilized.

I liked his music but singers are a dime a dozen.  They come and go.  I, for one, am glad he publicly admitted the error of his ways but I don’t buy his albums for my niece very much the same way I don’t download Miley Cyrus for her either. His lapse in judgement and behavior is far worse and there is no justification for violence against a woman. It is wrong. But I am coming around with respect to Brittany Spears, so who knows what the future will bring.  He’s still only human.

@HermannM: You seem like a very nice well-meaning guy, but, uh, to compare your threshold of forgiveness of Chris on a par with Britney, is, well… ridiculous. The behavior cannot even be compared – a propensity for violence does not a lapse in judgment make. I would have hoped your Madison Avenue street smarts would afford you more sense. Out here in celeb LA this is business as usual. You are naive at minimum (or attempting to help rehabilitate him).
That goes for you too, jsw. Also, he and Rhianna were talking long before things were settled in court. They’ve been “working on [their] friendship.” *arcing eye roll*
smile Sorry guys. I still respect you. Look, he might get his chance to come back, but will have to earn it this time. As you said – time will tell.

ps: This vid? May also be/satisfy part of the fine print of the Court’s orders for community service…

I know he did a terrible thing, I really do. And this is probably just a PR stunt.

But an apology is never too late. It doesn’t mean you have to treat the person as if nothing ever happened, but it’s worth something.

I understand why he apologized, I just wish we knew more about what actually happened that night.  Did she strike first?  Was this an extended arguement?  We’ll probably never know.  Rhianna has admitted to smashing her own brother in the face with a glass battle during a verbal arguement and both camps have reported that the couple fought repeatedly.  Furthermore, her lawyers didn’t want the judge to put a restraining order against him.  The whole thing is fishy.  It’s not ok to hit a guy just because you’re a woman.  Mutual respect is necessary for both genders, at all times.  You can’t hit someone and not expect that they might eventually hit you back.
