Chris Brown Sentenced For Rihanna Assault & New Details Emerge About Violence

Sigh. The Feb. 8th incident when Chris Brown assaulted Rihanna was not the first violent argument between the couple. Before his sentencing yesterday, Brown’s probation officer filed a report revealing the couple was involved in two other incidents “related to domestic violence”—and come to find out, Rihanna has slapped Brown in the past. Obviously that does not make the intensity of his brutal Feb. 8 assault excusable, but it sheds light on how they had a more violent relationship than we previously thought.

The first alleged incident happened somewhere in Europe, where the couple allegedly had a verbal argument that escalated into something physical. According to the probation officer’s report, Rihanna slapped Brown, who then shoved her against a wall. The second incident allegedly happened in Barbados, three weeks before the pre-Grammys assault, when they had a verbal argument inside a leased Range Rover and Brown exited the car and broke the front driver side and passenger side windows. Neither incident was reported to the police.

These new details arose yesterday when Brown finally got sentenced for the Feb. 8 assault: he has five years’ probation, 52 weeks of domestic abuse classes and 1,400 hours of community service cleaning graffiti and washing cars in Virginia. He isn’t allowed to communicate with Rihanna, has to stay 100 yards away from her in public and 10 yards away at industry events.

Since the other incidents weren’t reported to police, a court can’t make Rihanna attend counseling, too. But after learning she has slapped Brown in the past, we think she could use a DV class herself. [Dlisted, Rolling Stone]
