Chic Dresses That Actually Cover Up Your Naughty Bits
So, who out there has ever had to layer a tank top under, say, a DVF wrap dress in order to remain “covered”? Or have you ever felt nekkid wearing a strapless dress to work, so you threw on a tee underneath? Or a cardi on top? Don’t know about you, but my hand is raised way up in the air. Why is it that chic dresses sometimes just leave us feeling a little too exposed?
Luckily, I just found an awesome solution.
Two women decided to up and do something about the general frock-overexposure dilemma and created Shabby Apple. It’s a collection of dresses designed in the spirit of real-deal women. These dresses are truly “outfits” unto themselves—no cardigan or tank needed. Even better, each dress is inspired by a true story submitted by an actual, living, breathing (and not properly clothed!) woman. And if you’re thinking the dresses are at all frumpy, take a look-see here.
Not sure which silhouette is right for you? They offer a quick questionnaire to help determine your body type and the dresses that would suit you best. None of the dresses are over 100 bucks that I can find. And the best part of it all—proceeds from your sale will go towards providing 500 women with micro-credit loans to help them overcome poverty. I have often thought about how ridiculous it is that in order to wear some lovely designer dress (read expensive) to work that I also need to shell out for a tank to combat potential clevage issues and a cardigan to combat woefully short sleves in over-airconditioned offices and/or unflattering arm flab, thereby reducing the effect of the designer dress. Love this idea. Thanks!

Wow, these dresses are fantastic. Also they have plus sizes, so they are great for ALL! Think I’ll get the fushia one above, very cute.

Oh my gosh! These are great! I love “L’Ete,” especially.
And yes, I most emphatically WOULD feel nekkid wearing a strapless dress to work. Sorry, but who the heck would wear a strapless dress to work anyway? (Oh, oops… you, Nina?) That’s, um, kind of unprofessional—unless you work in fashion. A better example might be feeling nekkid wearing a strapless dress to, say, meet your boyfriend’s conservative parents…

I <3 the Fifth Ave! Most of these dresses are adorable and not frumpy at all. The few I looked at were under $100. Reasonably prices and trendy.
Yay.

Anniushka, back in my office days, I did throw on an odd strapless dress (though with a blazer over top) when faced with one of those “I have NOTHING to wear” morning moments. But I also worked in an office where teeny shorts and strapless dresses in the summertime was the norm. Eh, the fashion industry!

Just ordered the Houndstooth Madison Avenue dress- SO adorable in the Mad Men style that is everywhere lately. Now if someone can just tell me where to get cute, comfortable, affordable red patent leather heels like the model is wearing, I’ll love you forever. Thanks for pointing me to another great buy Frisky (got the Gap blazer too!)
