Cheaper Can Be Better
We didn’t know anything about bras until we got properly fitted. Before that, we had really only ever bought them from places like Kmart, Target, and Filene’s Basement, where no one cares whether you buy the wrong size. And even though we love the lacy bras we bought, we may have been onto something by going for cheap bras (at least for everyday wear). Consumer Reports tested three bras—La Perla Vintage ($127), Victoria’s Secret Ipex Demi ($45), and Gilligan & O’Malley Padded Demi ($11)—and found the $11 bra, available at Target, was the best buy. Not only does it have better cup molding than the Victoria’s Secret bra, but it didn’t pinch or poke and held up better in the wash. [Consumer Reports]

I knew it all along! I’ve been buying those Gilligan & O’Malley Padded Demis for years!

My favorite “cheap” bras are from American Eagle’s Aerie line. They fit me perfectly and they are really comfortable. I don’t even bother with my VS bra’s anymore unless I want some oomph in my cleavage.

I just want a bra that could survive the washing machine and the dryer. I always accidentally throw my bra in the dryer and they get all twisted and funky because of it. Oi Vey!

Now that I have been fitted, I am curious to see if the sizes they told me I am, work in the cheap bras that I love from Target and Gap and, um, H&M;.

@ Deirdre - I totally agree. I know hand washing bra’s is the way to go, but I don’t have time to sit there and lovingly hand wash my bra’s. I wash my bra’s in washing machines, but I never dry them in dryers. I just hang them around the house to air dry - sexy. :-p

I just lost my favorite bra to a dryer accident. I mourned all day yesterday.
