Take A Deep Breath, Clogs Are Back In Style

Before I started ninth grade, I carefully selected a few new pieces of clothing that I thought would help me make the transition from awkward junior high student to stylish high schooler. Among these items were a pair of Gap jeans, a brown silk-blend knit Banana Republic top, and suede J.Crew clogs. Man, I loved those shoes. They made me feel so chic—and tall!—as I clomped around my high school’s hallways.

Now it seems I might get another opportunity to wear clogs while not employed as a nurse or chef, because the shoes were worn by models at the Spring 2010 Chanel and Louis Vuitton shows in Paris this week.

I had thought I would do a roundup of cute clogs to buy, but to be honest, I found more that look like a crochet-happy grandmother’s handiwork than ones I’d happily wear. The two pairs pictured above were some of the only styles I found that might fit with the other stuff in my closet. If this trend’s really going to take off, more shoe companies need to create attractive clog options. Otherwise, a lot of us will simply wait until next season to follow designers Karl Lagerfeld and Marc Jacobs’ marching orders.
