Tim Burton’s “Alice In Wonderland” Is Going To be Amazing

Promo picture for Tim Burton's

Tim Burton is one of my favorite directors. I know “The Nightmare Before Christmas” by heart and left the theater with goosebumps after seeing his twisted remake of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” Not to mention that I admire his constantly casting Johnny Depp! Which is why I could not contain my excitement upon seeing the new promotional photos for Burton’s upcoming rendition of “Alice in Wonderland.” It’s just like Burton to take a children’s fairytale and warp it, and by the looks of these pictures, we’re in for one dark fall down the rabbit hole. In this creepily surrealist version, Alice lands back in Wonderland 10 years after her first visit, but she has absolutely no recollection of being there the first time around. Oh, and did I mention that this movie will be shown in 3-D and that you can explore the CGI scenery thanks to this cool USA Today gadget?

Sadly, the movie won’t be out until March 5 of 2010. So to tide you over, here are our favorite of the publicity images.

Shocker. Helena Bonham Carter, also known as Tim Burton's significant other, is in the movie. She'll be play The Queen of Hearts, and I'm already terrified. Just because of her eyeshadow.
Johnny Depp will be the Mad Hatter. He looks more creepy than hottie, but still—he can celebrate my unbirthday any time.
Anne Hathaway will be the White Queen. Yeah, I don't remember that part either.
Taking on the role of Alice—Australian newcomer, Mia Wasikowska. In this version of the story, Alice will go from little girl to single girl. Instead of reading under a tree, Burton’s Alice follows the white rabbit after running away from an impending proposal in front of snooty socialites.
Tweedledee and Tweedledum look like terrifying humpty-dumpty twins.

Have you READ the book?  Not sure this was ever intended to be a children’s fairytale.

I do agree, though. This movie is going to be amazing.

Despite loathing Tim Burton, this movie is perfect for his style.

I’m still mad what he did to the Batman franchise.

Burton kind of beats you over the head with odd-for-the-sake-of-odd and forgoes character development.

I’ll still watch it though, looks fun.

@Lily, you can wear the doodle bra with some crazy stuff on it, in the spirit of the movie of course.

I’ve been looking forward to this for at least the past year or so. Danny Elfman will be composing the score, of course, as usual?

@cun7n1nja, yup! Elfman’s on board. I can’t wait to see the Caterpillar and the Cheshire Cat!

It looks amazing! Tweedledee & Tweedledum looks like the guy from Little Britian. Am I seeing things? I’m too lazy to find out for myself, ha. raspberry

The White Queen is in Through the Looking Glass (as are actually Tweedledee and Tweedledum), which I’m glad is being included.  Also, the Red Queen is NOT the Queen of Hearts, so I’m interested to see how that plays out (while Alice in Wonderland royalty is based on cards, in Through the Looking Glass, it’s based on Chess).  But overall… wow, what an awesome cast/team.  I’m pretty excited!

@Queen: I can’t either! The Caterpillar is one of my favorite characters. I’m a big Danny Elfman fan, so I’m extra excited. Then again, when does he NOT compose for Tim Burton’s films? Haha.

I’d definitely see this one—Tim is Alice In Wonderland incarnate. It would be curious to see how he’d put *his* notorious twist on an already twisted story—and on so many levels to choose from.
ps: Is Lady Gaga the makeup and wardrobe stylist for Queen of Hearts/Helen BC?

@cun7n1nja_:  Danny Elfman is hands-down my favourite composer.  I think of all of Tim Burton’s movies, he’s only twice not composed the score because they had a falling out.

I love Tim Burton.  I think I’ve seen every movie he’s ever made (including Frankenweenie and Vincent) and with the exception of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I’ve loved them all.  I think Alice In Wonderland is going to be fantastic.

@CheeeeEEEEse:  Really?  Not a fan of his Batman movies?  I think they were super cheesy, but they were supposed to be like a comic book, so I loved them.  Batman Returns is my guilty pleasure.  Catwoman’s latex suit is suuuuch a turn on.

I’m pretty excited for it but Anne’s unmatching eyebrows and hair do freak me out a little bit…

This movie is making big news in the Hollywood circles. The Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland should prove to be quite the picture, as the director brings a distinct visual atmosphere to his films, and so far there is a lot of talk about Johnny Depp, and his role in the film as the Mad Hatter, and the 17-year old Mia Wasikowska as Alice. Many will line up some money loans to go. Lewis Carroll wrote the story as a children’s fable. The tale is a classic, and there will be a lot of cash advances paid to see the Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland.

@sam04: Mine too. That makes sense though, considering their loooong, ultra-entwined careers together, haha. No one can get along all the time. Have you listened to his band, Oingo Boingo, or watched The Forbidden Zone?

@schwenmn, White Queen follows in a long line of white haired, dark eyed/browed Burton girls. Remember Winona Ryder in Scissorhands? And Ricci in Sleepy Hollow? And Johanna in Sweeney Todd?
