Book Proposal Says John Edwards Promised Rielle Hunter Dave Matthews Band At Their Wedding

John Edwards and Rielle Hunter

A dishy new book proposal by a former aide says former Senator John Edwards wasn’t merely cheating on his long-suffering wife Elizabeth Edwards. According to Andrew Young, the senator promised Rielle Hunter he’d marry her after Elizabeth died from cancer in a rooftop ceremony in NYC with the Dave Matthews Band playing.

Urgent memo to Senator Edwards: Making romantic plans for after your wife’s death = tacky! [New York Times]

We’re not surprised Edwards is a slime ball. Though, cheating on your wife when she’s ill from cancer is as low-down dirty as it gets. To boot, the guy has proven himself to be a notorious liar: When The National Enquirer first broke news of the affair, he flat-out denied everything. But after over a year of denials, Edwards finally came clean on ABC’s “Nightline” that he’d hooked up with Hunter, who’d produced videos for his campaign. Young, author of this dishy book proposal, played cover-up man for Edwards and at one time signed an affidavit saying Hunter’s child was his kid.

But despite the lies and cover-ups, Elizabeth really seems like she really didn’t want to split up. She wrote about the affair in her memoir, Resilience, and talked about it on “Oprah.”

However, both Edwards have long denied that the senator is daddy to Hunter’s two-year-old daughter, Frances—even though in August, the Enquirer also said a secret paternity test confirmed John Edwards’ paternity. Frankly, we believe the Enquirer on this one.

We kinda hope Young’s book never gets published, just because poor Elizabeth seems like a sweet woman and we don’t like to see her humiliated even further. We feel bad for Rielle Hunter too. Yes, she’s a boob for believing this cheating liar would actually follow through on his promises. But we’ve probably get twinkly-eyed if a good-looking Southern charmer promised us a private “Satellite” serenade at our wedding, too!

I don’t feel bad for Rielle Hunter at all. Poor Elizabeth Edwards who has to deal with more and more of this stuff coming out!

I agree.  I don’t feel bad for Rielle Hunter at all.  She KNEW what she was doing—that she was sleeping with a married man.  And she knew the man’s wife had cancer.  Yeah, Edwards is a slug, but Hunter doesn’t have an ounce of class either.

Good thing we didn’t vote this guy in, eh? If he’d cheat on his wife (who’s dying of cancer and is still undoubtedly grieving over the death of her son) imagine what he’d do to us, a nation of strangers. This story is gross. I hope John Edwards just goes away now.

I’d say they ought to be ashamed of themselves for carrying on like this as Elizabeth dies of cancer, but they’re far too self-involved to realize how reprehensible their behavior is. What narcissists.

Any woman that believes a married man – esp a high-profile politician – is going to leave his wife for her (w/ or w/o a child) – is delusional, straight up. The anomalies are not even worth mentioning.

For years I wondered why Edwards never pushed thru to higher office; now we know why. He had to make disclosures to potential running mates, and knew this would come out at some point.

Shame on Edwards, Hunter’s an idiot, and Elizabeth is left holding the bag. She doesn’t deserve this.

I read an excerpt of a book on the NY Times website that I think was actually linked from the Frisky.  It was about 20 pages about John and Elizabeth’s relationship and his campaign.  I don’t think it was Mr. Young’s book though.  Anyways, Elizabeth was portrayed as a pretty awful person as well.  She treated staff and John like they were all below her.  I think everyone feels bad for her because she had cancer, but that doesn’t make her a nice person.  It ususally isn’t just one person who ruins a relationship.  I am not justifying what he did, but what I read really made me feel sorry for how she treated him.
