Bill Maher Can’t Handle His (Tila) Tequila
Revelation! Bill Maher is a d-bag. About 20 seconds into this clip of his “New Rule” routine, he says:
“New rule: stop acting surprised someone choked Tila Tequila! The surprise is that someone hasn’t choked this bitch sooner.
Oh no, he did not go there.
It’s true. Tequila appears to have lied about her alleged assault, as San Diego Charger’s linebacker Shawne Merriman was cleared of battery charges by the San Diego District Attorney’s office last Friday. (The new rumored accusation: Merriman allegedly asked Tila for a foursome, she flipped out, and said she was going to bang one of his friends. Merriman alleges that Tequila was trying to leave and he tried to stop her from driving drunk.)
Whatever. I don’t care who wanted to sleep with whom, when or why. What I do care about is why Tequila’s sexual promiscuity is up for judgment more so than her 911-happy trigger finger? Just read what Mike Fleiss, the producer behind “The Bachelor” and “More To Love” shows, had to say about that “skank.”
Fleiss is penning a sports blog for The San Diego Union-Tribune and in his September 12th post, he wrote about “that skank” Tila, who “will do just about anything for publicity”:
TRANSLATION: Tila’s not only a real-life whore but a fame whore, and we shouldn’t believe her. (Random side note: Is Fleiss trying to tell us those chicks on “The Bachelor” trained at Juilliard? Bitch, please!) Not that I disagree with Fleiss’ comments on fame-hungry stars. But, personally, I believe Tequila made a false accusation about the whole thing because the police investigation concluded Merriman didn’t do it. Her “skanky” lifestyle has nothing to do with it—it’s not believing Tequila because of her “skanky” lifestyle that’s the problem. Drunk women, strippers, prostitutes and Tila Tequila can still be physically abused or raped! Jokes like the one Bill Maher did create a slippery slope, by insinuating that any woman deserves abuse if someone thinks she’s being a “bitch.” Yeah, Tila’s apparently a false accuser and that’s rotten. But guys like Bill Maher and Mike Fleiss should STFU, because not only entertainers with “discernible talent,” “Juilliard training,” and “a reason to be a star” deserve to not be abused. [L.A. Times]“I have nothing against bisexual chicks and, of course, I deplore violence against women. But this particular girl is typical of the random skanks who populate most reality TV shows (not mine, of course).
Ms. Tequila has no discernible talent, no Julliard schooling, and, ultimately, no legitimate reason to be a star. What she does have is an ability to chase down the spotlight like Merriman hunts down a quarterback.
Trust me. A girl like Tila Tequila will do just about anything for publicity.
With her show long ago canceled, Ms. Tequila’s celebrity status was about to expire. She was spinning. And not just from multiple shots of Patron.
When these so-called “celebrities” feel their star fading, they become increasingly desperate to keep their names in the news. Fame is a drug and when you take it away from an addict, things get ugly.
Does that mean she was lying about everything that happened at 4 a.m. at Merriman’s Poway home? Not necessarily. But believe me, Tila and her “representatives” were thrilled to be back in the headlines—even for just a week.
Nice career move.

as off-handed as the joke was, i still thought it was pretty funny.

This means he is advocating violence towards every woman in the world!
If you are surprised that Bill Maher made an irreverent comment, you should either watch the show more than once or not at all. It happens frequently.
He also made a joke about a black Elvis and the cracker nation; does that mean he hates black and white people?

I do not feel sorry for her, and I love Bill Maher. He is an equal-opportunity jackass and that makes him great.

“I’d choke her too, anyone else?
But seriously, isn’t it her job to instigate and make things look more important than they really are? ”

@Squid: He went on a speaking tour where he berated her….I guess that is as close as dating as she’s gonna get.

@CheeeeEEEEse - The ‘berating’ that you speak of, was hardly that. I guess from a speaking standpoint. But as loud and vicious as he gets while anyone is not in the room. He was hardly at arms with her from the clips that I saw and the press that I read. I could be and probably am wrong though ; ) But I wouldnt put it past either of them.

He’s a comedian! You should expect these comments from him and others. If anything we should shame Tila. Don’t you go to jail for making false accusations? Women like her make it harder for women who are actually getting beaten to be believed. She’s like the fu*cken girl who cried wolf, the day that they really do beat her ass, no one’s going to believe her and will just assume it’s some attention getting scheme. I feel bad for her, not because of this incident, but because she’s a stupid skank, NO one will ever be able to choke or smack that outta her.

I wouldn’t read into it too much with Bill Maher. If you can imagine John Stewart, but less funny and kinda bitter, then you have Bill Maher.
If you want to read into it, I don’t think he is an advocate of choking out women. Just choking out people who don’t really add anything productive to society.
Did anyone notice if he said anything when someone from will.i.am’s entourage hit Perez Hilton?

I’m not surprised he said that, and I’m sure a lot of people were thinking the same thing. I know I was. And I don’t think she was actually choked. She did have bruises on her arms where she was grabbed, but not on her neck.

Just curious, but would you be this bent out of shape if he’d said this about Spencer Pratt instead?

@sadie In answer to the question, “Just curious, but would you be this bent out of shape if he’d said this about Spencer Pratt instead?”, yeah, if Spencer had accused Heidi of choking him I’d feel the same way. Even if the incident turned out not to be be true, what is important here is to see the sexism in their jokes. People don’t like Tila Tequila because she’s promiscuous (and an attention whore and a lot of other unsavory things), and that, I think, is why everyone is laughing and shrugging when sexist jokes or comments are made about her. slut-shaming the potential victim of a crime because we think she is a “skank” (acknowledging she’s not actually a victim) is a slippery slope—it could be one of us who is the perceived “skank” next time.

I think people think of Spencer Pratt as a famewhore too which is why I bring it up. I am sure people would laugh if Heidi choked him. I think the issue is that Tila is annoying, not her sexual habits. People should probably sitck to joking about how she is annoying in general, regardless of her sexual habits, because really she is annoying.

Um, tried to watch the clip but seems like Time Warner shut this video down for copyright violation.
@ Jessica Wakeman
Jessica, I understand your point completely. From the gist of your argument Maher is saying it’s acceptable to batter or worse kill women like Tila Tequila because of their infamous, promiscuous reputations. He uses sexism as comedy in many of his jokes about women in the media because frankly… Bill Maher is sexist. I can only take him in small doses because he does the whole alpha-male posturing on his show and I don’t really gel with that too tough.
I know men (and some women) are quick to call “sexually adventurous/promiscuous” women:skanks, hoes, etc. Sexual double standards in Hollywood (and in reality also) are prevalent. A man sleeping around with various women is a bachelor, lothario and a lady killer or “just being a man.”
A woman does the exact same thing, then she’s a whore treated like a semen receptacle and punished for not acting like what society deems is a lady/good girl. As much a I think Tila is fame parasite, I know both Maher and Fleiss would sleep with her if they had the chance. Maher especially being notorious for serial monogamy/skirt-chasing “fast women” like Karrine “Supahead” Stephens and is therefore a hypocrite.
IDK, it seems like society still views women, especially if they are in TV/Music/Film, in a one dimensional way: angel or devil, good girl or tramp. There is no in between. I am definitely not justifying Tila’s behavior but I agree with you Jessica, it’s a sexist joke by a guy who is on national TV indirectly giving thumbs up to shaming/hurting the same type of women he screws and objectifies, not unlike some other men in this day and age. It’s a vicious cycle that makes issues like domestic abuse/sexual assault seem comedic and actually worse. Some will just see Maher’s comment as a subversive joke but there is truth said in jest IMHO.
