Beyonce’s New Video Rips Off Bob Fosse
So, I took one look at Beyonce’s new video for “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” and realized it was eerily familiar. One of my most favorite viral videos of all time is “Mexican Breakfast”, a Bob Fosse dance routine that was redubbed with DJ Unk’s “Walk It Out”. Check the original after the jump and try and tell me Beyonce didn’t straight up pull a Kenley.

i’m still mad at her for remaking ‘kissing you’ (from the movie romeo + juliet).

We all know Beyonce is great at shaking her ass and is very flexible, now can we please have an interesting video? This video is not only a rip-off, but it’s also boring. The song will be very fun to dance to, though.

I knew it at once, and I’m glad I’m not the only one who noticed!

That Fosse mash-up is so great! I’m so glad you introduced me. Love it.

Its blatant that a number of artists have used song riffs or videos to make themselves look original. But it’s sad that they don’t fess up to it. Just say this “inspired me”, or “so-and-so had amazing ideas”. But she even copied some of the moves! Pathetic.

Um no. Beyonce’s video is an homage, a reference, inspired by Bob Fosse. I don’t think that anyone in her camp would deny the similarity. That’s obviously what she’s going for. Not to mention, the video isn’t recent- I’m not a dancer but I would imagine that certain styles are cyclical.
Kenley used practically identical silhouettes/materials to McQueen’s show ONE SEASON earlier, and with her claim to not follow fashion, denied that the dresses were similar. The situation is not the same at all.

I recognized the similarities immediately! I’m a big Beyonce fan—and I love Bob Fosse’s choreography, so I spotted a redux off the cuff! I think she did a fairly good job of making the dance her own! Many great performers have been inspired by greats before them. It’s a tribute!

she stated on 106&Park;that the moves and video were inspired by “Mexican Breakfast” and the difficulty involved in doing an entire routine with no cuts.
