Beauty Test Drive: SweatBlock

How sweet would it be to never have sweat stains on the pits of your silk tops and summer dresses? Forget antiperspirant, and instead try on Sweat Block, liquid soaked pads that you swipe on your underarms before bed, which then keeps your pits dry for a whole week. No joke. It may sound like a crock or a crazy science experiment that may give you cancer, but Sweat Block is scarily legit. The medicated wipes work best while you’re sleeping (when your sweat glands aren’t active), forming a non-filmy, undetectable chemical block. I’ve been using the pads for two weeks, and so far I give the company an “A” on the non-perspiration front. As for pleasantness of smell, Sweat Block gets a “C.” Yet, putting up with the temporary scent of the wipes is nothing in comparison to dealing with the smell of B.O.—or worse—baby powder-scented B.O. Does this work on facial perspiration?  During the summer I sweat and shine a lot.  Like Whitney Houston “crack is wack” a lot.  It’s uncomfortable and embarrassing.  If not, do you know of a similar product?

what happens if you put deodorant on top of it, to block odor??

I’m mostly fed up with deodorant stains. The majority of the brands that “go on clear” definitely don’t stay that way…and those clear gel type brands are too sticky…this is definitely worth a try! And cattgirl, I wouldn’t trust this on my face…too many different chemicals.

And this does beg the question: if this product keeps your pits from sweating, does the sweat then come from elsewhere? Ya know, like from your hands, your feet, or…ahem…other places? Cuz ya know,,.I’d rather have to deal with sweaty pits than have to deal with swamp ass…

I agree with Arsenic, it just seems unhealthy.  Humans are supposed to sweat, otherwise we wouldn’t.  Sweating cools the skin in hot weather, and helps to push out toxins from under the skin.  I’ll deal with sweaty pits and yellow stains instead of blocking a biological necessity.

I’ve used Certain Dri for a few years. It’s a clinical strength antiperspirant that probably works the same way as these wipes. I’ve been assured that it’s perfectly healthy. I do sometimes put an added deodorant on top of it if I’m going to do some heavy duty exercise, but usually this is all I need.

Huh? I don’t think it sounds unhealthy..it just sounds like a long lasting antiperspirant. What do you think deoderant is..an antiperspirant! Stops people from sweating!!
I don’t know about you but I won’t go around without wearing deo just because my body was designed to sweat. I say yea to a week long deo instead of the twice a day variety..depending on shower habits. wink

@GreenAura and Arsenic: Sweating might be necessary but speaking as someone who has hyperhidrosis, sweating THIS much… is not needed.  I use Drysol on my underarms because they sweat the most, and I still drip really bad. I got it from my mom who can soak through a sheet of paper with her sweaty hands. Ever see Dr. Horrible? Know Moist? Yeah, that’s us. This sounds like an AWESOME product, especially if it doesn’t burn the way Drysol does. It can’t smell as bad as Drysol does either. I might be giving this a try in the near future.

@Arsenic, @GreenAura: Stopping _all_ sweating would be bad, but stopping sweating in your pits isn’t going to hurt you, assuming the means used to do so isn’t inherently unhealthy.

from their website (I checked it out to see if it was safe or trustworthy, I definitely want to try it!)

“SweatBlock mechanically blocks the sweat glands only, and is never introduced into the blood stream. Also, if applied in the underarm alone, because this comprises only a small surface area compared to your whole body, you still have enough pores to sweat appropriately. Hence, SweatBlock, if used appropriately as directed, is safe.”

So, no you can’t put it on your face, (or ass haha) and it still allows you to sweat, so its safe.

@ roastchicken: deodorant is not the same as antiperspirant. Deordorant blocks odor, antiperspirant prevents sweating.  Most products contain both.  My personal preference is just deodorant, but I am also lucky enough to not have a bad sweating problem.

@ likeOMGkbye: thanks for posting the info from their website!  It says it’s never introduced into the blood stream, but my concern is that, as a woman, I shave my pits and there are tiny microscopic nicks from the razor that leave openings into the blood stream.  I wonder if the makers took that into consideration??

I know I’m probably putting too much thought into all this, I’m just one of those people that has to research every product before I use it.
