Men's Must Have Beauty Products

We’re way past boys pretending they don’t use beauty products. Women all over are sharing bathroom vanities with their boyfriends. These days, trips to the beauty counter aren’t complete without a pass by the men’s section. Now dudes are faced with the same problem we girls have – just what to buy with all the hundreds of options? A new Sephora study reveals that there are specific favorites, depending on your location.

Here in the United States, men overwhelmingly care about their teeth, skin, and the way they smell. Top sellers? BriteSmile To Go Accelerator, Tend Skin, as well as Acqua di Parma, Dolce & Gabbana’s Light Blue, and Armani’s Acqua di Gio.

Over in China, men are obsessed with creams and lotions from the brand gf (ever heard of it? we haven’t either), but stray away from fragrances. Meanwhile in France, the boys keep it based close to home and stick to products made in France. Le Male by Jean Paul Gaultier and 1 Million by Paco Rabanne top the charts.

What does your boyfriend buy? Or what do you buy for him? [Independent U.K.]

Last time I was in NY I was, again, stunned by the American dudes. They really take grooming and metrosexuality to a level that I do not find back in Scotland. At a party where I was the only chick I did less cooking/cleaning/prep than I have ever done back home.

I’m not sure how I feel about it. One guy asked me how I felt about shaved balls and I had no idea that was something men would even contemplate. Maybe I just live in a particularly backwards place, but I was easily the least groomed and cared for person at that party.

Now I feel like a hippy.

I showed my boyfriend the C. O. Bigelow line at Bath and Body works, and even goes in by himself to buy it, which I find to be pretty cute.  Besides that he mainly uses Axe, which I think smells pretty good in spite of having obnoxious commercials.

I buy B&B products from LUSH. I buy scents from BPAL. But I don’t use a whole lot of products all that often.

My BF uses hair stuff, usually a putty or a wax. He has a flatiron (and sometimes uses mine) when his hair is shorter to get his style just right. He is also kind enough to use up my fancy shampoos and conditioners that I buy but don’t quite work out for me! And I’ve got him using SPF face lotion (Eucerin) every day, he just asked me to pick it out because he didn’t know what to look for in a lotion. I know he’s used WhiteStrips in the past but I don’t think it’s a really regular thing, he does pay attention to get whitening toothpaste though.

I even got him to try the Curly Girl method with me for a while, but we both eventually gave up - me because my hair was a tangly mess, him because it’s just easier to give it up and his hair isn’t long enough that it would really make a difference.
