An Underwire Sports Bra Could End Your Workout Woes
I am a busty lady, and what might suck most about it is never finding a supportive sports bra—I’ve always had to wear two to make sure the Boobsey Twins stay in place when I’m on a run or working out. While there are solutions out there for C, D, and larger cupped ladies, I find a lot of these bras are either made for women who also have larger bodies or they’re simply so freakin’ ugly that I just can’t bring myself to wear what looks like some t-shirt flotation device. My latest discovery is this Adidas “Simia” sports bra with underwire (underwire—thank you!). It also has all the makings of a sturdy workout garment—molded cups, wide straps and a hooked back closure. How about that. [$40, ShopAdidas.com]

I’m not sure how I feel about an underwire sports bra…I have large DDs but a small body and have found the UnderArmour HeatGear Shaper (D cup) to be AMAZING. Although it’s a pain in the rear-end to get on, it keeps my girls almost motionless through a variety of high impact sports.

Underwire sports bras are very comfortable, and don’t poke if you’re wearing the right size.
Two other places that have great sports bras for all sizes:
Champion online- they’re having a HUGE sale right now. (I just got 6 new ones because most of mine were like 3 years old) They have both underwire and non.
Title Nine- they rate them according to the number of barbells= amount of support. Pretty reliable. Mostly not underwire, but you do have that option!

Leonora, are these better than the Lulu Lemon “Ta Ta Tamer”?

As a 32G I feel your pain - but when I was searching for a sports bra I was told not to get an underwire one if the sports you’re doing are medium to high impact.
Freya do a good line in sports bras. They’re expensive, but that’s just the problem we larger ladies face.

Yeah, I’m a D/DD and usually have to wear two sports bras to keep the ladies from hurting!

Why no underwire for high impact sports? I ride horses (saddleseat, so lots of posting and bouncing) and would LOVE to be strapped down tight… and after surgery earlier this year to remove a blocked duct, any bouncing makes for tenderness ... is a pullover type better than a hook type?

I do Zumba which calls for a lot of shaking of the chest. I found Champion sport bras That hook in the back and have a good band on the bottom really help me keep them in place. With the pullover type, I sometimes feel like I’ve dislocated a boob during class. BluenBlonde, thanks for the tip about Champion’s sale!

I am big fan of Freya’s active line: http://www.freyaactive.com/products/freya_active/underwired_sports_bra.aspx?colour=Black. (Their regular lingerie is pretty awesome for larger cup sizes, too!)

I have no idea why you shouldn’t use an underwire, I’m sure I was told at the time but I’ve since forgotten.
Admittedly, when I rode (cross country, show jumping, not so much dressage) I used a normal underwired bra, but my body protector strapped me down I would have been as well not wearing a bra for all the movement that existed. When I’m jogging (or extremely rarely doing aerobics, etc.) I prefer the fit of the soft cup bra.
http://www.shockabsorber.co.uk has a bunch of information too - including some disturbing jiggling graphics. Mine is a shock absorber (not sure they’re available in the US) and I do know that they don’t sell G cups in anything under level 4 protection. Level four bras aren’t made with underwire, at least not by shockabsorber.
A vague answer, I admit!
