religious extremism makes me want to vomit.
seriously though, that’s probably the WORST pic of Mel Gibson I’ve ever seen. He looks dead. (I suppose that’s what extreme Catholicism does to you—slowly kills you from the inside out)
I think a little religion isn’t harmful, but when you take it to the level of “I need to be in a church 24/7 and completely live my life for God”, then it’s a little extreme and annoying. I attend services almost weekly, but I don’t shove my religion in anyone’s face.
We’re all entitled to our own opinion and philosophies when it pertains to life.
ahahahahahaha! Effing hickster- that is effing brilliant!
I’m not in college anymore but I am a little tempted to go to my alma mater and do just that!
I don’t know…if you are going to be over the deep end about something, better God than drugs, booze, or other things. There are far worse things than religion. I think more people need a little religion, actually. And by religion, I mean Hindu, Christianity, Wicca, Judaism…whatever it is that you would like it to be.
We all should know that “Origin of Species” isn’t a religious text either, but it is a treatise on evolution—treatise being the operative word.
The creation story is a story, not a treatise. It is neither a systematic argument/exposition nor methodological discussion. However, in its defense, there have been countless treatises written about the creation story.
All I know is that I’d like to have some of what Kirk is smoking, because he certainly seems to be having a good time.
@Abby, It looks like they’ll be visiting my campus too. We get a lot of Jesus-protesters (because we’re so historically liberal) so it should cause too much of a commotion. But I kind of want one of the books, and I plan on listening to effing hickster’s suggestion.
@LunaLena - Absolutely. Although true Satanism is less about satan and more about the self. I tend to think of “devil worship” as another offshoot of Christianity since the pantheon on the same. I’m not sure which you were referring to.
As my last post on the frisky, I will say that yes, that counts. Totally. That’s a religious philosphy and what I was referring to. I tend to think that all religions are pieces of each other.
I don’t think that what people think of as “Satanism” is really Satanism. I thought it was what you described in your last post. I think people think that Satanism is devil worship and…not so much.
Thanks for the awesome vid. suggestion cheeese. I totally watched most of her other videos and I have a new girl crush. lol. @jsw too bad she’s married…
Oh that video was great! I think I have a girl crush too!!! Not going to bother reading the 50 pages of garbage though, I get the idea and reading it will only annoy me.

evolution =/= abiogenesis(origin of life)
evolution =/= big bang theory(origin of the universe)
evolution = the theory surrounding what happens to life AFTER IT ALREADY EXISTS
No more, no less. I know plenty of religious people who acknowledge evolution as “god’s plan” after their deity “created” life.
Come to that, there are MANY “alternatives” to the big bang theory. Let’s teach EVERY CREATION MYTH to kids and tell them they’re all true. *rolls eyes*
Ugh, it’s people like Kirk Cameron that cause so many people to look at Christianity and go, “Yeah, no thanks.” It drives me up the wall.
I’m a Christian, but unlike Kirk and his neo-con, fundamentalist folks, I know better than to spout such nonsense. God gave us the ability to reason, and these people apparently didn’t get the memo. I don’t understand people that think the Bible is meant to be taken 100% literally, when a lot of the content is allegory and thus open to interpretation. One thing that always gets me about these “young earth creationists” is how they claim the world was created in 6 literal, 24-hour days. We measure 24-hour days by the sun and the moon…which weren’t created until day 4. It bugs me to see things like this because it means people are going to go, “Oh, so all Christians are Bible-thumping, closed-minded weirdos?” when there are a large number of us that are anything but. There’s a large number of liberal Christians (like myself) that kind of get lost in the media’s “religious right vs. secular left” battles.
It annoys me that these people are more interested in promoting some far-out, bigoted agenda than actually following Christ’s message of peace and love for your fellow human being. Jesus didn’t say, “Love your neighbor, as long as they agree with you 100% and aren’t some lunatic liberal commie homosexual that hates guns and freedom. USA!”
In the words of Ziggy Marley… LOVE IS MY RELIGION. But as far as other people’s religions are concerned, it doesn’t bother me so long as it isn’t shoved down my throat. If people start to judge me based on my personal beliefs, that’s where religion starts to bug me. And also people that KILL for God (which makes zero sense to me anyway). Other than that, I hold no judgment towards anyone and their religion/beliefs.
