“(500) Days Of Summer” Plus Five Other Indie Chick Flicks
I’ve been waiting for this day for months. ”(500) Days Of Summer,” which is guaranteed to be my new most favorite movie, is in theaters today! Sadly, however, I’m under the weather and likely won’t be getting off my couch to go see it tonight, as planned. Sniff. But the film, starring eternally adorable Zooey Deschanel and uber hottie Joseph Gordon Levitt, is hardly the first indie chick flick. After the jump, five you may have missed that don’t star Sandra, Reese, or Katherine. I know what I’m renting from Blockbuster tonight!
“Sliding Doors” starring Gwyneth Paltrow
“Next Stop Wonderland” starring Hope Davis
“Waitress” starring Keri Russell
“Stealing Beauty” starring Liv Tyler
“Flirting” starring Thandie Newton, Nicole Kidman, Noah Taylor

I want to see 500 days of Summer so much - just from the preview I can tell I will be bawling like a baby though. (Blame a recent breakup)
And I absolutely love Waitress - it’s super cute!

@z3nger It opens in NY and LA today and I believe everywhere else next week. Probably a limited engagement though. Indie chick flicks don’t get as much theater love as, say, “The Ugly Truth.”

Thanks Amelia….this list has made me discover a few new movies, actually old ones that I missed, that I haven’t seen…I’m so excited!

I caught it at a free screening a couple weeks ago—it was advertised (though not very prominently) on the Web site, and you had to sign up to receive a pass in the form of an e-mail. I’d encourage everyone to go see it—it’s really a great film, a breath of fresh air.
The N.Y. Times even gave it a good review: http://movies.nytimes.com/2009/07/17/movies/17five.html
Does “Garden State” count as an indie chick flick?
