Jimmy Fallon

Last night, techies from all corners of the World Wide Web gathered at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City for the 13th annual Webby Awards. The Webby Awards are like the Oscars of the Internet, honoring websites, advertisers, videos, and films in more than 70 categories. While the interwebs are pretty cool and all, what makes the Webby Awards super special is that winners are limited to acceptance speeches of five words or less, making them like truncated haikus. After the jump, our favorite five word speeches from last night.

  • Person of the Year Jimmy Fallon: “Thank god Conan got promoted.”
  • Best Actress Sarah Silverman: “Holocaust. Did it happen? Yes.”
  • Artist of the Year Trent Reznor, frontman of Nine Inch Nails, who gave away the band’s latest album for free on their website: “Wait… We didn’t charge anything?”
  • Best Banner Campaign Dick Buschman: “Erna, will you marry me?” (She accepted!)
  • Best Politics and Best Political Blog Arianna Huffington: “I didn’t kill newspapers, okay?”
  • Best Practices NYTimes.com:“Don’t be frugal, ad buyers.”
  • Lifetime Achievement Sir Tim Berners-Lee, creator of the Internet: “Free. Open. Keep One Web.”
  • Best Sports ESPN.com: “Brett Farve, get well soon.”
  • Best Humor Onion News Network: “Happy 40th Birthday Sesame Street.”
  • Breakout of the Year Twitter: “Creativity is a renewable resource.”
  • Best Travel Kayak.com: “Our new website is thetravelsearchenginethatmakesfindingthebestdealswickedeasy.com.”
