20 Ways To Spend Your Extra Hour This Weekend
Sad news, everyone: this may be Halloween weekend, but it’s also the weekend Daylight Saving Time ends and months of dreary cold and sunless days begin. Of course, the perky glass-half-full types are always quick to point out how we gain an extra hour when DST ends, like that somehow makes up for going to and from work each day entirely in the dark. There’s nothing we can do about it, though, so I say let’s make the most of that measly hour we get this weekend and try our hardest to kick off the long, dark months of winter on a good note! Not sure what to do with your extra hour? I’ve got 20 suggestions after the jump.
1. Sleep off your Halloween hangover.
2. Start your holiday shopping early.
3. Watch this week’s episode of “Project Runway” that you had to DVR because your boyfriend insisted on watching the World Series.
4. Take a yoga class.
5. Bake a pumpkin pie.
6. Give yourself a pedicure.
7. Make a batch of mulled wine to kick off November.
8. Get some friends together and play a rousing game of charades.
9. Make out with someone.
10. Hit the post-Halloween candy sale at Rite-Aid.
11. Go to a speed-dating event and see how many phone numbers you can score.
12. Start your “Best of the Decade” lists.
13. Have your own private dance party in your living room.
14. Practice a little “self-love.”
15. Take a hot bubble bath with a glass of champagne.
16. Get a professional massage.
17. Call your grandma.
18. Check in with your New Year’s resolutions and decide what you can still accomplish in the next two months.
19. Check out the profiles on Kiva and see if there’s anyone you’d like to give a microloan to.
20. Clean out your fridge.
So, what will you be doing with your extra hour this weekend?

And extra hour of mind-blowing sex sounds like a perfect way to ring in the most depressing part of the year!

No. 1, please.
And I like dreary, cold, sunless days.

We don’t do daylight savings here, so no extra hour for me. And luckily, I moved somewhere that stays bright and sunny despite cold and snow. Ski season here I come!

Fire up some green and make that extra hour seem like two or three.

Anyone who bakes me a pumpkin pie can be my friend. FWB is you bring whipped cream.

@CheeeeEEEEse: I can bake you the pie and bring the whipped cream, but I don’t need the FWB. Instead, I need a babysitter…interested?

I will most likely be combining #1 with Riley’s suggestion. And possibly Cheeeeese’s.

@joyy: And the snow has already started coming down!!! It snowed here on Wednesday and it was 25 degrees when I pulled up to work this morning, which is like 20 degrees colder than normal for 7am. I have a feeling this winter will be extra cold

@GreenAura - I know! We’ve had lows in the teens already and the snow hasn’t melted (yet). Is this your first winter out here?

@Wendy
REALLY fun, nice, novel suggestions.
I don’t have a grandma, but I think I’ll call my Auntie. And bake an apple pie instead of the pumpkin.
@Cheese - Sorry Charlie. But Apple Pie does go well with a nice piece of Vermont Cheddar on top.

@Spatula - I’ll share if you bring some pie.

@joyy: No this is our 3rd and to tell the truth I really don’t like snow. My hubby and I both grew up in SoCal and Vegas so snow foreign to us. Its so beautiful, but so troublesome. I couldn’t imagine living in your town where you measure it in feet (even though I love everything else about your town!) I would like to learn skiing and snowboarding though!! Maybe we’ll make a trip up there during ski season this year.

@ Riley & Spatula: How about “green” pie? Yummy and relaxing at the same time!
Riley

@GreenAura - I don’t like cooking with that particular reduction.
Messes with the taste too much.

I’d rather buy pumpkin pie than come anywhere near children thank-you-very-much.
Riley, you gotta be creepier on the internet. Watch me.
Spatula, I’ll share if you bring the pie.
Emphasis on pie.

I’m with @Riley..I prefer my green and pie separately.

Being internet creepy is easy. I prefer to do in real-life by asking ladies at the park if they’d like some candy or help me find my lost puppy. Of course, I also drive a utility van with no door handles on the inside.
My euphemisms don’t include pie though.

@green aura - care to share your recipe? Ingredients are so expensive up here that I’m afraid to try anything less than a tried and true recipe =P And do holler if you ever want free skiing lessons (can’t help you with snowboarding though).

Hmm its going to be in the high 80’s here so all the fall things are out, on the other hand it is Florida/Georgia weekend so I’ll probably be sleeping off a non-Halloween related hangover.

I am a grower out here in No Cal and I partake daily with my script and I have to say brownies are the most evil thing ever invented. I felt like Stewie in that episode where they all drink the ipecac “Why didn’t anyone tell me? I dont wanna please please ***barf***” Just awful lol

@joyy: although my ingredients are quite the bargain, the quality of them is pretty poor and probably from Mexico. Unfortunately, I do not know enough people here to find quality ingredients. Makes me miss the (literal) greener pastures of CA. And I just might take you up on those skiing lessons!
@equnsuocha: I am an admirer of your farming capabilities and I will gladly make my way to NorCal for some of your delectable brownies.

It’s nice that you thought of 20 ways to spend an extra hour but I can tell you after reading #1, that’s the ONLY way ALL of us are gonna spend it.

Since it will officially be November, i.e. last month of school and conveniently also the month of hell for college students, I will still probably be working on getting about 10 end-of-the-semester projects done. I will make up that hour when, at the end of the semester, I spend the entire 60 minutes cackling triumphantly at the sad, frantic students that waited until the last minute. Booyah.
