I bow to the costume genius of reader
Alison Wonderland for absolutely killing it with her Sunmaid Raisin Girl Halloween costume. She was inspired initially by Catherine’s “I Wanna Dress Like The Morton Salt Girl” post from a few months ago, but said, “I don’t have short hair and the umbrella was too bulky a prop,” so she went elsewhere with the advertising mascot theme, sewing her own bonnet. Mad props, girl. Keep clicking to see other Frisky reader costumes!

I was wishing I had edited the photo a bit. Maybe a little red-eye retouching. But I think it just makes me look like that much more of a devilish egg.

Nice! I totally agree, the Sunmaid Raisin Girl was amazing!
Me, I just cross-dressed this year. But as a slightly old-fashioned (50s?) man, with a Stetson fedora and suspenders. It was the best, ‘cause it was warm! And I felt way less self-conscious than I would have in something tight/short. (I didn’t drink; inhibitions fully intact all night.) Ha ha.

my friend and i did ‘dark’ alice in wonderland. i’ve got brown hair and didn’t want to wear a wig… plus my dress was green, not blue. it still worked though! and she found black ears and everything for the rabbit. her outfit was slutty… at least for her. mine wasn’t. :/

having sex for money or favors makes you a whore. calling girls flaunting their sexuality whores makes you a douche. go back to 1950.

@Cheese - Projecting your own issues with sexuality onto others? You should really vent that sexual frustration…it will screw with your head.
Riley
wrote on November 3 2009 @ 09:52 am: [report]
@Cheese - I suspect someone of the other gender will pop in at some point. It just isn’t fair to call someone a whore because of their costume choice. I’d attack that comment regardless of the site.

Yeah I see the description, it is in jest though.
The emo force is strong with you. Good, I can feel your angst. I am defenseless. Brush your hair out of your eyes and take your weapon. Strike me down with all of your tears and your journey towards the crying side will be complete!

yeah wow, calling someone a whore is pretty awful, considering you don’t know me at all…dressing in a “slutty” costume has absolutely NOTHING to do with how I act. And since you don’t know me, you probably shouldn’t comment on my behavior, since you know NOTHING about it. Michelle and I loved our costumes, and chances are I will wear mine again on another halloween in the future.
And also I just want to say that I included the description “slutty” in my email to The Frisky…so I have no problems with it…for one night only it was a style of dress, not a behavior or a desperate cry for c*ck or attention…

Now that I’m in my dotage, and no longer bother much with Halloween except to hand out candy to the neighborhood tykes, I enjoy the costumes. When I was a kid, back in that year MuchMacho referred to, it seemed like adults didn’t get into Halloween at all. Now, it’s definitely an opportunity/excuse for a party.
Meanwhile, I’d be remiss if I didn’t jump on Jamie Lee’s bandwagon. Mr. Cheesy’s logic is the same type that says if you wear something really sexy (i.e., “slutty”), and some moron rapes you, the rape is YOUR fault. B***S***! It’s only a Halloween costume – dress however you want, Amelia and friends.
Also gotta say I’m right with Humble Bee’s 2nd sentence. There are some very attractive women in those costumes. Too bad I’m not a few decades younger…

“I am going to admit that I’m not sure what Brandi is, but I love her teeny, tiny top hat!”
Okay, I’ll admit that I hadn’t really named my costume either. But I wanted to wear my homemade tutu and the tiny top hat! My friend started call me the Cirque du Soleil ringmaster…so we can go with that. Thanks for including my quirkiness!
Everyone looked awesome. Loved the Old Gregg and Sunmaid costumes!

I love the Olive-from-“Little-Miss-Sunshine” costume! Great idea.
Though I think it’s completely ridiculous to call someone who dresses slutty for Halloween a “whore” or anything like that, I do find (that trend) rather tedious and lazy. It sort of says “I’ll distract you from the fact that my costume isn’t clever by wearing very little clothing”. Yawn.

Cheese, I’m disappointed with the turn this discussion took. But thanks! I went trick or treating with my two year old niece and nephew so my costume was wholesome this year. Though trust me, I took advantage of the opportunity when I was in college.

actually it never got funny…telling anyone that they look or act like a whore is not funny EVER and i’m very surprised that the readers of the frisky would treat each other that way, even in jest.
would any of you walk up to a stranger on the street and tell them they look like a whore due to their outfit…i highly doubt it.

I don’t really get how you can wear a costume with SLUTTY in the title and then be completely shocked when some sexually frustrated dude on the internet says you look like a whore. Is it that the word whore bothers you more than the word slutty? Because the meanings are not terribly different.
I’m just saying, you know you looked slutty, because you did it on purpose, and described it that way yourself. So you shouldn’t be so offended when other people (haters) point it out, because you also know you looked great!!
Riley
wrote on November 4 2009 @ 10:20 am: [report]
@Cheese - I think it was just a case of being called on your comment and not being able to remove the foot from the mouth.
It happens.
Jamie Lee
wrote on November 4 2009 @ 10:28 am: [report]
I guess to me saying that an outfit is slutty is a bit different from someone saying you’re a whore with no context to go on other than a picture of a Halloween costume. To me it wasn’t funny it was extremely offensive, but I’m glad everyone thinks calling people names is no big deal. I’ll make sure to pass that message along.
Riley
wrote on November 4 2009 @ 10:35 am: [report]
@Jamie Lee - I think most people sided with you about the initial inappropriate comment.
Now you are just dragging it out. Post the photo on a more geek-visited site and you’ll get some really colorful comments; they’ll make Cheese’s look like praise.
