Some of those 'ugly trees' are the Tree of Life. Especially those where the branches and roots are intertwined.

I actually really liked the dandelion ones.. hadn't seen that before. The last one, with a person blowing their head off, is rather gross.I generally hate any tattoo that has words on it. I knew a guy who got a tatt of a pint of beer with some words around it. (can't remember what the words were) Why would you want that?I also think portrait tatts are tacky. That said, they are very personal, and I think people have a right to do what they want to with their bodies. But I'm not going to get words or people on mine. For my 30th birthday, I got two orchids on my hip. They're rather large, due to the amount of detail I wanted. The guy did a beautiful job. But now I'm losing weight and I'm worried how they'll look.. they've already started creeping towards my belly button. If I ever end up getting that tummy tuck, I'm going to ask them to save my orchids..

I like the dandelion ones - I don't know, I don't think the fact that two of them exist negates their attractiveness.

Everyone, of course, has the right to what ever tattoos they want on their body. I just have two comments.1. Tattoos on the wrist must hurt!2. Finger Mustaches are absolutly stupid. So stupid that I question my original statement... But everyone has the right to even tattoo mustaches on their fingers.... I guess. :)

I like the dandelion tats as well ... but not the two pictured here. A girl I went to high school with has a really nice one on her hip with the things blowing away up her ribcage, and the art is seriously good. I liked it so much I kind of wanted one, but I wouldn't want something on me that everyone else had too. I also find the suicide tattoo to be tasteless and disgusting.

Wooo, loving the dandelions! A girl in my class had that.I wish the tribal bands & chinese characters would die out. If you're not part of that tribe or don't know chinese, get it off your freaking arm.

what you can't see very well on the suicide one is that the blood turns into a group of butterflies. not that it really makes it better, and I've actually seen that one a loooooot, it's kind of the "go to" image for a lot of kids.

Yeah, the suicide tattoo is disturbing. If it were the Statue of Liberty, it might make a better statement... but one which probably (hopefully) wouldn't remain valid for the lifetime of the person. There's some interesting new tech on the horizon to allow, in essence, implanted e-paper, meaning people could get color tattoos that would not change on their own but which could be changed whenever desired, or even animated. Yeah, tattoos are cool, but buyer regret is a major issue with them. If you can instead get a tattoo that you can change at will or which could move around your body. Not that? That is some seriously cool s**t.

I don't understand the popularity of swallows and owls. Looking at that site there's a whole lot of that going around...

Grrr. No coffee yet + kids running around = more than than the usual number of mistakes. The last few sentences should read:If you could instead get a tattoo that you could change at will or which could move (even around your body if you had enough sub-dermal implants), regret wouldn't be an issue any more. You could even turn it "off" whenever you wanted. Not that? That is some seriously cool s**t.

@H. Blue: I don't get it either. However, I'm guessing most men are fans of the swallows.

Crap... I have one of those. I have not only a tattoo on the back of my thigh, I have one that goes all the way AROUND my thigh. And may I state for the record, that getting a tattoo on on the INSIDE of your thigh SUCKS!!! @H. Blue: I agree... the big colored stars on the shoulders is also way overdone. But being a girl with quite a few tattoos, they are quite personal and I try my hardest not to judge... but I will always laugh at the guy that has Tweety Bird on his ass.

The suicide tat worries me... hope that person is doing ok. I also really liked the dandelion tattoos though, I haven't seen them before.

@tigerstripe I forgot exactly what that tattoo was, but apparently it's a semi-famous piece of art so I don't think it implies that the person is suicidal. I think it's more about what the artist intended the piece to mean that the tattoo getter liked. Anyway, if I get a chance today I'll do some research and post the link, because I think it's a cool looking tattoo, if a bit disturbing.

I think someone could make some serious money if they could develop non-permanent tattoos. There are the injectable capsules that look promising, but if there could be a technology breakthrough that would allow people to have full colour tattoos that could be easily removed, they could make some big bucks.

I thought the bike handlebar mustache tattoo was actually a funny twist on the usual mustache finger tattoo.

I liked the dandelion one as well..I thought they could have been done a bit better, but still. One of my friends got a tattoo after she got out of a really bad, long relationship. She a chain and lock on her ankle with the key in the process of unlocking. I thought it was going to turn out horribly, but the guy who did it, did a wonderful job, he managed to keep it delicate, but also amazingly realistic. She loves it.

Well, the Bukowski portrait is kinda cool. I mean, if it were done in pencil on paper, I'd hang it on a wall.

I LOVE tree tattoos! I personally don't like colored tattoos, and trees can easily be only black and white with some shading.

when i got my first tattoo on the back of my neck, the artist said, "good first tattoo location. you don't want it somewhere you can see it everyday and overly critique. a lot of people go oh it's too big, it's too small, should i have gotten it there?, but those feelings fade after the first tattoo". i thought those were wise words, just thought i'd share in case someone gets tattoo inspiration from the article.

The first place I saw that suicide one in the last picture was on fullbleed.org. It was on a tshirt like 6 years ago. Didn't like it then, don't like it now.

just to be fair, that "suicide" tattoo comes from a tshirt or a band album... can't remember which one. oh, looks like jill already commented on it. and what you can't see in the photo is the "blood" turns into a bunch of butterflies. swallows and owls are very traditional tattoos, and traditional tattoos are really back in style.

@leesha, Your comment made me chuckle to myself; My sister is thinking of getting a Zelda tattoo, and I'm thinking about getting a Harry Potter tattoo! We're nerds, haha.
