Liquid Condom Prevents AIDS Transmission
  • A new “molecular” liquid condom has been developed that would prevent the transmission of AIDS during intercourse. The condom consists of a vaginal gel that turns semisolid in the presence of sperm, trapping the AIDS virus. [Medical News Today] – Sounds promising!
  • Twilight” has inspired clothing lines and greeting cards. Now, Mattel is launching two new Barbie dolls: Edward Cullen and Bella Swan. [People]—Sadly, Edward’s doll doesn’t do his steamy sex appeal justice.
  • Marriages are tough enough, but with the recession, things are even harder. One wife’s story reveals the harsh reality many couples are faced with these days. [Wall Street Journal]
  • We’re sad summer’s almost over, but we’re not gonna miss these awful swimsuits. [Lemon Drop]

The liquid “condom” sounds promising. It needs to be inserted hours before sex, which seems like the biggest issue with it, but it would allow women to have some control when the culture makes it very difficult for them to compel their partners to wear protection.

The Twilight dolls caused me to destroy my keyboard with a re-visit by my dinner. Ugh. Enough!

Pet peeve of mine—you cannot contract ‘AIDS’-  you can contract HIV. HIV is the virus that is transmitted between people, and AIDS can only be developed by someone with HIV. That happens when a person with HIV has a T cell count below a certain number, or when he/she contracts a specific disease (called an opportunistic disease, and there are many different types), which indicates that they have begun later stages of AIDS.  Someone who contracts HIV cannot die of the virus alone, they must first develop AIDS and will die of one of the opportunistic diseases. I know that it seems knit-picky, but if you ask anyone with HIV/AIDS, it’s a really important distinction. You can live for a long time with HIV…

@coriac: That’s why it’s usually referred to as HIV/AIDS. One is a Virus that kills white blood cells, the other is a syndrome brought about by said white blood count.

@cariac.  lmao.  awesome.

@CharlieAnn:  Really?  if you read the original article one of the motivating factors was to protect women in countries where they can’t insist on their partner wearing a condom. Icky probably isn’t at the top of their priority list.

I think my concern is that it’s so pH dependent.  I’d be freaked that any change in the, um, local environment would render it ineffective. although…probably better than nothing…

The research if anyone’s interested.

@xinyuan: We are finicky the same thing doesn’t always work and unless she says don’t ever do that again keep trying the same thing and toss in some new things because eventually you will get it right.  Keep her guessing and that will surely work!  If she likes romance or she likes it rough just keep her guessing as to what comes next!  At least this is what would work for me, so I’m assuming it may work for someone else.
