In the fourth installment of her “Self-Titled” series explaining the making of her latest album, Beyonce gives us a peek into the thought process behind one of her hottest songs ever, “Partition.” Bey talks about inviting all of the songwriters she was working with to hang with her family at a house in the Hamptons, taking a couple hours a day to record and the rest of the time being a mother, “breastfeeding with cornrows in my hair.” Bey used the studio as a place to rediscover the other parts of herself that had been kind of sidelined by the welcome arrival of little Blue. “Just because you become a mother, doesn’t mean that you lose who you are,” she says. 2013 was a pretty memorable year for pop music, especially if you had lots of opinions on blurred lines and riding a wrecking ball naked. In case you need a recap of pop radio in 2013, musician Robin Skouteris made a mashup of this year’s top 56 songs and their videos. It exhaustively clocks in at just under 10 minutes! IMHO, the Katy Perry “Roar”/Taylor Swift “Trouble” part is the best. (Thanks, commenter LR52185!) [YouTube]
The third video in her series explaining the making of her new self-titled album, Beyonce gives us some behind-the-scenes footage of her and Jay Z recording and filming the video for their duet, “Drunk In Love.” It’s so fun seeing Bey react to hearing Jay’s freestyle for the first time — she seems especially, uh, moved when he raps “hope you can handle this curve.” Oh, Mrs. Carter certainly can. Also, while I’m excited that she shouted out my favorite odd pronunciation in the song (SERFBORT forever!), I wish she had explained the line further. “Serfbort” is obviously “surfboard,” and when she says she’s “graining on that wood” she means “grinding,” but is she trying to say Jay’s penis is like an old-timey wooden surfboard from the 1920s as opposed to a more modern foam board? Also, do people actually put cigars on ice? Clearly I have spent a lot of time thinking about this song, but questions remain! Anyway, watch above.
“Adore You” is perhaps the best example on Miley Cyrus’s latest album, Bangerz, that the girl can sang. Vocally, the song is just great. However, the video, which debuted today, is just hilarious. Watch as Miley, sans fards, writhes around in a nude bra and panties beneath billowing white sheets, holding a video camera as she rubs her body and mouth in ecstasy. I mean, so much excessive mouth touching, I can’t deal. I hope she washed her hands.
Yes, I’m aware that we haven’t even quite made it through Christmas yet, but it can’t hurt to think ahead, right? I’ve got New Year’s Eve on the brain, and I’m already polishing my dancin’ shoes.
For the first time in years, I’m not hosting all of my friends for New Year’s Eve, which means my Christmas tree will remain intact, my floors clean, and random objects in my house will not be put into sexual positions. But there is one thing that will stay the same: I’m in charge of the beats.

I have no idea why this Chihuahua named Rosie Pig is wearing a wig and a turtleneck, clutching ice cream, while Bey’s “Pretty Hurts” plays in the background — but it’s a pretty accurate depiction of what I’m going to be doing in about 45 minutes. [Vine via Buzzfeed]
