This is so cool: Ellie Goulding solicited photos from fans to create a lyric video project for her new song, “Anything Can Happen,” off her forthcoming album, Halcyon. Fans submitted over 1,200 pics and a great deal of them made it into the final video (above). The song is devine and I love the Instagram-y vibe of the vid. Enjoy!
I was already kind of obsessed with Jessica Paré, who plays Megan Draper on “Mad Men,” especially after she did that little French song-and-dance number at the beginning of last season, but now I’m officially smitten. The actress sang with The Jesus and Mary Chain at a handful of gigs this past week, doing a pretty damn good job on their songs “Just Like Honey” (above) and “Sometimes Always” (after the jump). Maybe Megan should embark on a singing career instead? [Buzzfeed] Keep reading »
Schmoopy-ville: Population 1. That’s me! This summer I’m head over heels for a new fella and as a result most of the songs I listen to on Spotify are pretty happy of late. A bunch of these are ones my dude sent me. A couple are silly pop songs that make me think of him. The OK Go song is because went to an OK Go concert together. The Madonna one is, um, self-explanatory. And Norah Jones’ “Happy Pills” isn’t a love song, exactly, but the lyrics always remind me of what love feels like. Schmoop out everyone! Keep reading »
I basically think about going to the beach, being at the beach, and listening to music on the beach, like, year round. Currently, these are the jams I would chill out to while digging my toes in the sand. Enjoy and happy Saturday, y’all! Keep reading »
I listen to music all day while I’m working and, thanks to Spotify, I also make my own mixes. I like this, especially, because I used to DJ a ton and I think I’m pretty good at mixes — figuring out what follows which song, and how it should all flow together.
I made this all-ladies mix a while back, and am stoked to share with you some of my fave girl-bands and female musicians, past and present. Enjoy, after the jump! (And tell us what you’ve been listening to lately in the comments!)
I’m a tiny bit obsessed with R. Kelly, for a number of reasons. One of them: His epic “Trapped in the Closet” 32-part song and video masterpiece. R. Kelly said that it was like he had made up a whole new genre of music and entertainment, because it was telling a story with words and music. Noooooooooow, just think about that for a minute. Also, he is the guy responsible for bringing the phrase “real talk” into the modern vernacular, so extra credit for that, too. Plus, he’s just clearly so out of his megalomaniacal and bonkers mind. How can you not totally love this dude?
His new autobiography, Soulacoaster: The Diary of Me, is a rollicking ride, to be sure. Which is why it needed a very special person to recite it on “Jimmy Kimmel” this week. Someone like… Keep reading »
Musicians may have more sex than your average bear, but as the bad advice covered in these lyrics show, they may not always know what they’re talking about. The following are some egregious examples of misguided advice. Keep reading »
Brian McKnight has released the “YouPorn Anthem” and let me just say the song is filthy. It is even more graphic than his song “If You’re Ready to Learn”, which was released in April. If you recall the latter was a song about a woman’s nether region. Well now, the smooth crooner and now dirty crooner that he is has released a track that seems to be about yet another body part … the anal region. Read more…
