Ever tried (and failed!) to sing Beyoncé at karaoke? I have! And so has actress Nina Millin, whose terrible attempt at warbling Bey inspired her to try performing some of her songs as dramatic monologues instead. So far, she’s tackled “Irreplaceable” (above), “Mine” and “If I Were A Boy” (after the jump), all of which work perfectly as theatrical monologues. I’ve always been a little meh on Nicki Minaj, but today the rapper dropped a ballad that is knocking my socks off. “Pills N Potion” is an uplifting, but not-even-remotely cheesy love song directed at her haters and will be featured on Nicki’s upcoming album The Pink Print. “Swearin’ on the Bible that they love you but they’re no different from all your rivals / but I don’t wish death on ‘em, I just reflect on ‘em,” Minaj raps on the pared-down track, giving fans a taste of what they can expect from her next effort. Seems like Lana Del Rey has traded her signature hair-sprayed bouffant for a headful of relaxed beach waves in the video for “West Coast,” the first single off Ultraviolence, her much-anticipated sophomore album.
The primarily black-and-white clip features Lana frolicking on the beach with a couple of gutter punks intercut with footage of the pop singer lounging with a MUCH older man in the back seat of a convertible. Directed by Vincent Haycock (Florence Against The Machine, Calvin Harris), the video then ends with overlapping color video of Lana being burned alive while wearing what looks to be a red Jessica McClintock, scalloped, off-the-shoulder prom dress.
