Wendy Williams and Rachel Maddow
These Two Are Cute Together

Rachel Maddow and Wendy Williams are strange bedfellows indeed: Rachel is the host of MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show” and smarter than 99.9 percent of America, while Wendy Williams is the host of “The Wendy Williams Show” and the last time I watched it she was reenacting “The Real Housewives Of Atlanta” wig-snatch. So no one is as surprised as me that these two are really cute together. After gabbing about how slimy Donald Trump is, the two got down ‘n’ dirty talking about pop culture and politics. The fact that Rachel Maddow knows the exact ingredients found in sketti makes me love her even more.

Police Say Sharmeka Moffitt Set Herself On Fire In Alleged KKK Attack

Sharmeka Moffitt

Yesterday. we were aghast to hear that a 20-year-old Louisiana woman named Sharmeka Moffitt claimed she had been attacked by three men and set on fire, burning the majority of her body, in a hate crime.

Last night, police confirmed that Sharmeka Moffitt actually faked the “attack,” scrawled the n-word and KKK on her car, and set herelf ablaze. Keep reading »

UPDATE: Sharmeka Moffitt, 20, Set On Fire In Alleged KKK Attack In Louisiana

Sharmeka Moffitt

UPDATE: Police now say Sharmeka Moffitt set herself on fire and wrote “KKK” and a racial slur on her car herself. She is still in critical condition at a hospital in Louisiana. [MSN]

There are no words to really describe this: the FBI in Louisiana are investigating a possible hate crime attack by the Ku Klux Klan on Sharmeka Moffitt, a 20-year-old black woman, on Sunday evening. Police say Moffitt called 911 to report that three people in white hoodies attacked her. The men pounced on Moffitt while she was exercising alone in a park in Winnsboro, set her on fire, and spraypainted “KKK” on her car. Sharmeka Moffitt has third-degree burns over the majority of her body and has been hospitalized in critical condition. Our thoughts are with her and her family. [KLFYUPIThe Franklin Sun]

Beyonce sported some eye-catching hoop earrings for a dinner date with hubby Jay-Z over the weekend, and as you can see from this closeup, they spell out a clear message: OBAMA. And guess what? This political fashion statement is actually affordable for those of us who have never been on a yacht. Bey’s earrings are by Erika Peña, and retail for about 30 bucks. So, would you wear them? Or would you prefer a pair of bedazzled Romney hoops? [Hollywood Life]

Big news in science land: A new study from UCLA’s Department of Psychology has found that Republican women have more feminine facial features than their Democratic counterparts. Researchers examined the facial features of women in Congress and rated them based on adherence to standards of “gender-typical femininity.” Those faces were then judged by students, who were asked to guess which political party each face belonged to. The students were apparently, surprisingly, accurate in matching faces that ranked high in femininity with conservative politics and those with more masculine features as more liberal.

50 shades Kirsten Gillbrand

I’m as disinterested in whether Joe Biden waxes his undercarriage as I am in whether Kirsten Gillibrand reads 50 Shades Of Grey. But someone — hopefully someone currently hiding under their desk in shame? — thought it would be a good question to ask New York Senator Gillibrand and her challenger Wendy Long during a debate on Wednesday night. The candidates were participating in a rapid-fire round of yes-or-no questions. But included in still-kinda-stupid-but-kinda-legitimate questions like “Do you write your own tweets?”, they were asked if either had read 50 Shades Of Grey. And while I couldn’t care less if either woman read a SEXY SEX BOOK ABOUT HAVING SEX, I can’t imagine why this information is the least bit important to, you know, governing. However, I will hold off on declaring this question sexist until someone asks two male politicians whether they’ve read another famous sadomasochism tome, The Story Of O. (Seriously. Please. Someone do that.) [NYMag.com] [Photos: Getty/Amazon]

20 Dumbest Presidential Campaign Slogans

While it never wins or loses the election on its own, having a simple slogan that defines your campaign can mean a lot, particularly with undecided voters.  So, in the best case scenario, it shouldn’t be totally stupid. Here, in no particular order, are the 20 dumbest American Presidential campaign slogans.

2012 Mitt Romney: Believe In America: “Believe in America?” This country may be going through a rough patch right now, but does anyone doubt it exists?

2008 Barack Obama: Change We Can Believe In: This slogan was right on, except it turns out he was talking about loose change, which is all we have to live on. Read more…

"West Wing" Back Together!

Michigan Supreme Court candidate Bridget Mary McCormack has the campaign ad to trump all campaign ads: her sister Mary McCormack was on “The West Wing” and pulled some strings to get the cast together and film this amazing four-minute long Aaron Sorkin-style ad. All my old favorites are back — Donna! CJ! Josh! — and they’re walking-and-talking just like the old days. Who knows if it will actually inspire folks in Michigan to vote, though. It might just make bitter “Newsroom” haters like me cry into our “West Wing” DVDs. [YouTube]

Clint Eastwood Tells Ellen He Supports Gay Marriage

Throwing his feet up on the coffee table isn’t the only thing Clint Eastwood is totally relaxed about. During his interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Eastwood shared his views on gay marriage and his libertarian beliefs: “Socially, [they believe to] leave everyone alone, but [they] believe in fiscal responsibility and government staying out of your life.” DeGeneres then pressed Eastwood — who famously spoke to an empty chair at the Republican National Convention earlier this month — about his stance on gay marriage, noting that he had previously said he had no problem with it. Eastwood’s response was again, “Leave everyone alone!”

Did The “47%” Video Cost Mitt Romney The Election?

Leaked video of a May Mitt Romney fundraiser—in which the candidate calls half the country self-proclaimed ‘victims’—has the pundits swarming, with some saying it just might cost him the election. Here’s what they’re saying:

The video “has killed Mitt Romney’s campaign for president,” writes Josh Barro at Bloomberg.”Romney already has trouble relating to the public and convincing people he cares about them. Now, he’s been caught on video saying that nearly half the country consists of hopeless losers.” Read more …
