Today, January 22, marks the 40th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s historic Roe vs. Wade decision legalizing abortions nationwide. Despite the fact that issues such gay rights held a spotlight in President Obama’s inaugural address, a woman’s right to choose is is still a highly divisive debate.

Darn those Obama ladies for dressing warmly on an ice cold day and making it look easy. The First Family pulled out all the stops for the Inauguration this morning, with the First Lady wearing a Thom Browne coat and dress, a Reed Krakoff cardigan, J.Crew belt and shoes, and a Cathy Waterman necklace. Malia, 14, is also wearing J.Crew and Sasha, 11, is wearing Kate Spade. Michelle’s mom Marian Robinson didn’t get any style credits, which is a shame, because she looks pretty toasty too! [BuzzFeed]
Hillary Clinton is back at work, and while her blood clot is gone, her sense of humor is hopefully not. The State Department greeted Clinton with a standing ovation and a gag gift: a football helmet adorned with her department’s seal, reports the AP. She was also given a blue football jersey with “Clinton” and the number 112—the record-breaking number of countries she has visited as secretary of state—on the back. A conservative Utah senator has apologized to “my family, my Idaho constituents, and any others who have put their trust in me,” after being arrested in Virginia in the wee hours of yesterday morning with a blood-alcohol level of .11, reports Politico. Mike Crapo was arrested after police spotted his car run a red light around 12:45am. CBS News reports that the senator, a member of the ”Gang of Six,” failed “several” field sobriety tests. Read more…
