What Actually Happened: After refusing to let go of his slacker ways—and his four-foot bong—Ben (Seth Rogen) gets kicked to the curb by his beautiful albeit neurotic baby mama Alison (Katherine Heigl). After some time apart, Ben decides to grow a pair and starts boning up on what to expect when you’re expecting. When Alison suddenly goes into labor, she calls Ben to help. The former stoner is able to show off his newfound dad-ucation, convince Alison he’s ready for a family and the two end up reconciling just before the baby starts crowning.
What Would’ve Happened: When Alison unexpectedly goes into labor, she leaves a message for her sister and then calls her producer, who comes to pick her up and take her to Cedars-Sinai. To fit in with their maternity month programming, E! is turning Alison’s birth into a News Special; therefore, they’ve reserved a deluxe suite in the hospital, complete with a personal care aide to help with her every birthing need. Without the dead weight of her lazy baby daddy, Alison is able to have a relatively relaxing labor. Debbie and Pete, Alison’s sister and brother-in-law, are able to make it to the hospital just in time for the baby to be born and the special, "Alison Scott: It’s A Girl!," yields the network’s highest ratings—a record that wouldn’t be broken until "Kim’s Fairytale Wedding: A Kardashian Event." With so many people interested in the life of Alison and her newborn baby daughter, the single mother is offered a spot as the newest cast member on "The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills," which she balances with the occassional red-carpet gig for E!.
