Love Watching: "Grey's Anatomy" Try Reading: The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down: A Hmong Child, Her American Doctors, And The Collision Of Two Cultures by Anne Fadiman This real life medical thriller is one of the best books I've read, and a great reminder that people from different cultures can have completely different understandings of the same events. Lia Lee is the daughter of Hmong immigrants living in California. When she has epileptic episodes, doctors at the hospital treat her the way they know how. Meanwhile, her family believes that Lia's soul has been scared out of her and try to help her with shamans and animal sacrifices. The two concepts of how to heal butt up against each other is shocking and sad ways. Facebook Like
