Coulrophilia (Love of Clowns) by Anna Melissa
Excerpt: "No, the clown’s type wasn’t here tonight. He liked them more mature, softer around the hips and definitely less chatty and giggly."
How The World Would Be Different:Some early op-eds would appear on The Huffington Post explaining that in these hard times, when women’s rights are under attack -- equal pay, birth control and reproductive rights -- women just need to relax. Women need to have fun and what is more fun than a clown? Later, two pieces in Slate’s XX would focus on how clowns are universally known to be terrifying. Why do women want to be scared?! The reasons would be endlessly dissected. Not quite getting it, I would call my mother who would have read the Kindle version and ask her. “Oh well, clowns … you know … big shoes,” she would explain matter-of-factly.
