Writer Jaclyn Friedman has moderated a feminist journalist listserv that I've been on for years, so the moment I found out she was writing an empowering sex guide, I was thrilled. Jaclyn walks you through the mixed messages our culture sends about sex and sexuality ("look hot! but don't have sex!"), how to know what you want, how to say no to what we don't want, and how to communicate with partners.
But despite the pink cover, this book is not exclusively for women — or even heterosexually defined women, at that. She writes in an accessible way about sexuality in general so that anyone — boy or girl or something else, of any age or race — can relate. I'm not exaggerating when I say this book should be required reading in high school health classes for all kids.
I recommend it to ... anyone who has sex!
