Pamela Des Barres
Pamela is perhaps the most well-known groupie, because she’s the one who wrote the memoirs. She was of the 1960s groupies who wore heavy eyeliner with flowy gypsy scarves and huge hats. Pamela was part of the GTO’s--the girls every musician wanted to meet. The GTO’s became a band-- a groupie super group produced by Frank Zappa. But none of the women sang or played instruments, so their tracks consisted of spoken word, art performances and some misguided harmonizing. The GTO’s are also credited with coming up with Alice Cooper’s famous gothy look. The women really owned the groupie label, and prove that it’s rooted in creativity. Pamela herself became a long time nanny for Frank Zappa’s kids and “spent time” with Jim Morrison, Mick Jagger and Keith Moon of The Who. Facebook Like
