Good: Barbra Streisand won a Academy Awards for her first movie role— "Funny GIrl" —and was also nominated for "The Way We Were." Bette Midler also got an Oscar nod for her performance in "The Rose." People rolled their eyes when Diana Ross was cast to play Billie Holiday in "Lady Sings The Blues," but she killed it. Whitney Houston showed off both her lungs and her acting chops in "The Bodyguard." Man, she was so amazing before the crack. Oh, and Jennifer Hudson also won Oscar gold for "Dreamgirls."
The Bad: My opinion of Janet Jackson plummeted in 1992 after I begged my mom to take me to see the blah "Poetic Justice." Cher has proved herself as an actress, but her role in this year's "Burlesque" was just ugh.
The Takeaway Lesson For Carrie: Choose roles where you also get to sing, you could be in Oscar territory.
