Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace

 So it's not really a new book, but it is kind of hipster classic.  I had been meaning to read it for a long time, but the sheer size of it was daunting.  But I finally got around to it this year, and I'm so glad I did.  It's thoughtful and intricate and funny.  It's a bit of work to slog through--it took me 3 months to get through it--but when I had finished, I missed reading it.  It's such an intelligent and witty reflection on diversions and entertainment.  And if you've ever had any issues with substance abuse or mental illness, you must read it! -- Erin
