Mastiff by Tamora Pierce
So, the best book I’ve read this year is Mastiff by Tamora Pierce, which is the final book in the Beka Cooper trilogy. The trilogy is about a young girl training to become a member of the Provost’s Guards and her first years as a member of the force, told in the form of journal entries. Mastiff chronicles Beka’s journey to catch a kidnapper, while dealing the recent death of her fiance. I feel this book (or any book written by Tamora Pierce) should be included on your list because, even though it’s geared towards teens and young adults, the characters and issues speak to women of all ages. I began reading Ms. Pierce’s series in middle school, and I am still insanely excited whenever a new book comes out, despite being in my mid 20s. Mastiff is filled with many strong female characters, action, suspense, comedy, and romance, and is generally just plain awesome. Enjoy! – Crystal
