The Love Flute

As with courtship these days, traditional northern Native American courtship involved lots of public humiliation. Take the Love Flute. Young men would play love serenades on their double-reeded flutes in front of the entire tribe in order to win the girl of their dreams. If she liked him, he’d then invite her to share his courting blanket. If not, the next guy was invited to try. Yup, not embarrassing at all.
