The Monkees

What came first: The Monkees as a pop band or the Monkees as a television show? Surprisingly the band was actually formed for the TV show, as an attempt to capitalize off the popularity of boy band The Beatles. But soon, the guys in the band wanted more musical control, and began taking a larger part in the production and writing of songs. Eventually they took their music on the road, and even made a very, very strange movie called "Head," which also starred a little-known actor named Jack Nicholson. Ever heard of him?
