Beverly Peele, one of the most successful black models, pleaded no contest to identity theft charges in May 2006. She had found a wallet in a shopping cart, copied the owner's credit card numbers, and returned the wallet with its contents, but not before making purchases with the stolen card numbers. Detectives said she made similar purchases on a card belonging to a man who had dealings with the modeling agency where Beverly worked.
