Details: J. Crew coat (purchased on eBay); J. Crew cardigan, skinny jeans; Kaitlyn blouse (under the jacket); Gunmetal boots.
Outfit Notes: Allow me to take you on a journey into the depths of the ADD/OCD brain as it relates to shopping. About a week and a half ago, I was 15 or so minutes into a fantastic little indie movie called "Newlyweds" -- directed by Ed Burns -- when I found my ADD kick into high gear upon glimpsing the main female character's coat.
What is that coat? I must have that coat. Gimme that coat. Pause the movie, Amelia. You must find that coat. Coatcoatcoatcoatcoat.
So I paused the movie. Naturally, I immediately could tell that the coat was J. Crew. I have a sixth sense for such things. I headed to J. Crew's website and LO AND BEHOLD, they had the coat -- and on sale! Alas, they only had large sizes. I sighed and pressed play on the remote to continue watching the movie, a little dejected.
This movie is great, but I can't concentrate on it. Coatcoatcoatcoatcoat. I need that coat.
I hit pause and opened up my laptop again. I headed to eBay, which I know has a large selection of unworn J. Crew items. I typed in the coat name and BINGO! There it was!
Shitfuckdammit. It's a size 6 petite. I am a size 4. I am also not a petite. Could I be a size 6 petite? Maybe? Damnit, why aren't my arms shorter? Stupid arms.
At this point, I had abandoned the movie because I knew my brain was not going to be able to commit to watching at full attention. My OCD brain had joined my ADD brain in concert and these two very loud parts of my brain NEEDED THAT GODDAMN COAT.
I went back to JCrew.com and looked at their sizing charts. It turned out -- and I think Edward Burns is responsible for this in some way, as he really wanted me to finish his movie -- that aside from having a slightly shorter torso and slightly shorter arms, a size 6 petite is exactly the same as a regular size 4.
If necessary, I could get the sleeves let out. And my torso is not exactly abnormally long, so surely that won't be an issue. I'm doing it. I AM DOING IT. THIS COAT SHALL ME MINE.
And so I bought it. And then I finished watching "Newlyweds," which was wonderful, BTW. And my coat arrived a few days later and it is perfect. I even like the slightly short sleeves because my sweater sleeves can peek out.
And that is the story of how I channeled my ADD/OCD energy into procuring this coat.
