Winona's Dad Says: A first aid kit is always a compromise between preparing for the worst case scenario and the skill level required by the kit’s contents. I tend to over-equip my kit and work to gain more skills before the Mayan calendar runs out. Carry your supplies in a kit that is water resistant if not waterproof. Here are some basics to include:
-A good selection of bandages along with the supplies to make more bandages from gauze pads and tape.
-Some kind of anti-diarrheal such as LoMotil. Except for not drinking, there is nothing that can dehydrate you faster than diarrhea.
-Several packages of powdered oral electrolytes can help get the body's chemistry back into balance.
-Pills. Personal prescriptions as well as analgesics such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen, and aspirin (with caution).
-A variety of mole skin pads for prevention and treatment of blisters.
-A Tick extractor. I like the Pro-tick Remedy: it's simple, light and by far the best way to get out an embedded tick.
-Sun protection. Cover-ups like hats and sunglasses are most important, otherwise a zinc-based sun screen with a minimum of 30 spf can be used.
Winona Says: Seriously, don't forget the sunscreen. Surviving the apocalypse would be a bittersweet victory if you came out of it with wrinkles and sun damage.
