I felt really bad for Dame Helen Mirren on Sunday night, when her “spiderweb” tattoo was brought up more than once during the Oscars. Helen recently admit that she had the symbol tattooed on her left thumb, a “very, very long time ago,” when she was “very, very drunk.” She had it tattooed by an Indian artist in Minnesota while she was touring with a theater group. Of the decision she said, “I decided to get a tattoo because it was the most shocking thing I could think of doing … Now I’m utterly disgusted and shocked because it’s become completely mainstream, which is unacceptable to me.” [PopEater]

Meanwhile, I’m trying to tell my mom that not only prisoners have tattoos, but also classy broads like Helen Mirren. But like many tattooed people, I regret some of my ink as well and, apparently, we’re in good company here in Hollywood.
