The Look: At New York Fashion Week 2012, nails that looked like a sapphire lake lit by metallic moonlight were sent down the runway at two shows: Daniella Kallemeyer and Rachel Antonoff. Minx called it “Oil Slick,” CND called it “Starry Night.” We just call it ah-maze!
The Must Haves: CND and Minx are really just available to pros, but I wasn’t going to let that stop us from these fly fingers, gurl! I recreated the look using Essie polish in Midnight Cami, Shifting Power, Jamaica Me Crazy, and Smooth Sailing.
The Know How: First, paint your nails with a base coat (always!) and two coats of the rich sapphire polish. Let those coats completely dry.
For the metallic ripples, you’ll need a squishy makeup sponge. Simply brush one color at a time on the corner of the sponge, then dab it on in a random diagonal pattern. You can do two or three per nail, per color, with the magenta, gold, and light blue polish.
Seal it with a top coat, and bam, your nails will be as sparkly as your personality!
