“Fertile Little Tattooed Pageant Parents Who Enjoy Baking” Dwarves Sue
Five years ago, a couple with dwarfism were interviewed for an article by the AP about genetically engineering babies with so-called "birth defects." Gibson and Cara Reynolds posed for a photo by the AP, which ran alongside the story. A few years later, those goofballs at "The Soup" used the photo for a spoof advertisement about a fake reality show called "Fertile Little Tattooed Pageant Parents Who Enjoy Baking," altering the pic to include 27 children, some with tattoos. The Reynolds couple was not pleased. They have sued "Soup" host Joel McHale, E! Entertainment, and Comcast for defamation, misappropriation of likeness, and numerous other grievances. A lawyer for Comcast was in court last week arguing that the skit may have been tasteless, but not defamatory. I suspect they do not have a legal leg to stand on, but I side with the Reynolds on this one. Couldn't "The Soup" just have used a stock image photo, like a normal media outlet?
