In 1991, Texas mom Wanda Holloway was livid that her daughter Shanna hadn’t made her high school’s cheerleading squad freshman or sophomore year. Holloway blamed Amber Heath, a 14-year-old neighbor who’d worn the coveted pleated skirt both years, for cheer-blocking her daughter. So she did what any normal would do, right? She called her ex brother-in-law, Terry Harper, and asked him to find a hitman to off both Amber and her mother Verna. Harper went straight to the police, who wired him and sent him back to discuss the deal. Initially, Holloway offered to pay $7,500 for the killing of both mother and daughter. "Terry, you don't know this little girl," she said on tape. "If you knew her—ooh! I can't stand her. I mean, she's a bitch. I could knock her in the face, you know?" A few days later, Holloway changed her mind—she just wanted mom Verna killed for $2,500. The entire country was fascinated by the case, and tuned in for the trial, where Holloway was sentenced to 10 years in prison. The story landed on the cover of People and inspired two made-for-TV movies, one starring Holly Hunter as Holloway. [People] Facebook Like
