Winning the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund usually means a designer's career is on the verge of becoming the next big thing. Last year, Alexander Wang took away the prize, and look at him—we can't even afford to buy one of his jersey tanks. This year's award goes to French-born designer Sophie Theallet, who started garnering a reputation for her feminine, floral dresses, especially after Michelle Obama wore one (call it the Mobama Bump).
Theallet is one of the few designers out there to really embrace multiculturalism and make it marketable. Her influences are extremely eclectic, but somehow seem to work together via classic French and Rykiel-esque color schemes, Native American-inspired headbands, and subtle African touches in bunching and billowy skirts. She also uses a diverse cast of models in each show, which definitely increases the collection's worldly view. Click through to see some of Sophie Theallet's designs!
