While McQueen started out as an enfant terrible who purportedly once stitched “I am a c***” into the lining of a suit that he was making for Prince Charles, in more recent years he had become a cultural icon whose daring designs were worn by celebrities on the red carpet: Sarah Jessica Parker, Lady Gaga, and Rihanna, among others.
