In "The Wedding Date" Debra Messing, hires a male escort as a date to her sister’s wedding. Because women are so ashamed about singledom that they couldn't possibly be seen attending a wedding ... alone! But of course, as It turns out he’s hooker with a heart of gold and they live happily ever after. A very likely tale.
But male escorts are everywhere lately: from the HBO show "Hung" to the Reality show "Gigolo," which follows "real" working guys who service straight women. I use quotes because it seems pretty forced, and interviews with producers have revealed the women on the show are probably actresses.
But still, on the Internet, “straight male escort” sites keep popping up with copy like “You are a woman of impeccable taste, substance and finesse. Now you need the right male companion.” It's hard to imagine a dude could solely pay his bills as a straight escort, but there does seem to be a trend here.
Perhaps it came from Japan and the popularity of the “host” clubs. If you don’t know what I am talking about, Netflix instant “The Happiness Space." In these Japanese clubs, women pay exorbitant amounts to have male “hosts” fawn all over them. Maybe my Hello Kitty obsessed college suite-made was right ... the best trends hail from Japan.
