Shirley Temple had earned a small fortune by 1940, after starring in 43 feature films and shorts and amassing an impressive amount of merchandising. Unfortunately, her father's "questionable management" left Temple with a small fraction of that money. I guess there are worse ways to spend a childhood, but considering she essentially retired from the entertainment business when she was 21 years old, she should have been all set after all that work!
