6 Essential Parenting Lessons From ’80s Movies
1. Strike A Balance
The Movie: "Baby Boom"
The Storyline: In this film, J.C. Wiatt (Diane Keaton) is a Type A, over-worked Manhattanite marketing exec who inexplicably inherits a deceased, distant cousin’s child. It seems like she met this cousin just about once, which makes her the perfect candidate to raise their child.
Having a baby forces J.C. to shed her cold, calculated edge and flee for Vermont with her new adopted baby/cousin. After buying a money pit of a house sight-unseen, hijinks ensue. She eventually turns it all around by starting her own baby food company and sticking it to the man.
The Parenting lesson: J.C. can't have it all, and neither can any mom trying to balance work, home, family and love. But J.C. taught me how to strike a balance so I can grow my career by transforming it to fit around my new life with baby in tow.
