Another one name wonder who tried to rid herself of her super famous moniker? Madonna. In 2004, when she was a little Kabbalah crazy, she said that she was retiring Madonna in favor of the name Esther. “I was named [Madonna] after my mother,” she said. “My mother died when she was very young, of cancer, and I wanted to attach myself to another name. This is in no way a negation of who my mother is. I wanted to attach myself to the energy of a different name.” Obviously, this one didn’t stick too well. [Hello Magazine]
